Anti-Orthodox????

I’ve seen articles printed in the WatchTower/Awake magazines attacking the Orthodox Churches. It’s not as prevalant as attacks on the Catholic Church however.

So the JWs have branched out. I wouldn’t consider them Protestants or even Christians though. They are essentially Arians, with some modern modifications.

One is more likely to hear an Anti-Orthodox statement from Roman Catholics than from Protestants. That has been my experience.

All Christian denomination should merge into one United Christendum out of free will and peaceful dialogue uniting on truth, that is the need of the hour .

When would our Christian brothers would realize this and end one another’s bashing?

This confusion of denominations weakens belief in God and only promotes Atheism.

yes, and this is why islam will never be one, because it has no earthly authority except a book of one’s own interpretation.

chaos and division follow islam, always has, always will.

The exact opposite is true for the Church Christ established which remained virtually one for the first 1500 years. The Catholic Church remains the pillar and foundation of the Truth, unchanged in her dogmatic teachings for almost 2000 years.

The Romanians have a small but flourishing anti-Orthodox Protestant community. About 85% of Romanians are Orthodox, 7.5% Protestant and 5% Catholic. An interesting fact is that headcoverings there are associated with Protestants, not Catholics or Orthodox.

Fascinating about the headcoverings.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of what Protestant sects have had the most success there.

A girl I particularly admire for her virtue, her commitment to her faith, and her academic skill is (until my prayers are answered) a Jehovah Witness who studied Chinese in college expressly for the purpose of aiding Chinese language missions and translating tracts into Chinese.

I have to give her credit, I have never heard of a college-aged Catholic doing the same.

I agree with you. They do not believe in the Trinity, which makes them non-Christian AFAIK.

That is so weird. About all I’ve ever heard from American Catholics is how Catholics and Orthodox are so much alike, they are like sister churches. Then I heard from American Orthodox on the question, and they were basically calling down anathemas on Catholics. Then I heard from an Orthodox Christian from Greece, who basically told me all sorts of Jack Chick-like stuff about the Catholic Church. The whole thing took me completely by surprise based on what I’d heard Catholics say about Orthodox. I had no idea that the warm fuzzies were very definitely not reciprocated.

I just find it interesting that you have heard a very different attitude from Catholics than I have. I mean, yeah, in the Balkans and various other borderlands between East/West there’s a lot of tension. But I’ve never really heard it spilling over much into American Catholicism. Unless you’re talking about the Internet. There you can get all sorts of whacky perspectives!

Maybe it might be appropriate to mention a sports story:

Here in Chicago there used to be two soccer leagues. Most of those who played were recent immigrants and other ethnic groups.

Now the Serbian community (at the time concentrated at their cathedral) had a soccer team, and they purposely joined the league that didn’t have any Croatian teams. You might have heard that they don’t get along too well at times. You might also have heard that fans can get rough at times. The Serbs reasoning was that in the league they wouldn’t play the Croatians, so no chance of throwing a match on kerosine.

Well, all the other teams on the league were Latin ethnic groups, congragated at Latin parishes. So eventually they voted their co-religionist Croatians in. And the fun that the Serbs tried to avoid began…

A Serb said “I came here to get away from all this cr*p.”

I used to work with a fellow who is Serbian. He explained that whole situation to me. I thought it was very sad.
