Anti-Protestant bigotry has become too much here.

Guys, why are you all apologizing for an unsubstantiated characterization of the forums?

I have noticed more mean spiritedness coming from both camps lately and both sides are to fault. Catholics need to be charitable yet firm in their beliefs. Protestants need to remember this is a Catholic site, not to come in with both guns blazing and making folks angry, both sides need to humbly pray for discussing intense matters of faith and understand the other “human person” has feelings and emotions, no one wants to be treated as someones project.

I am so sorry you feel attacked here and I hope this can be resolved, peace in Christ friend:)

Syele,
I too would suggest just a break. I have enjoyed your contributions from a another mom’s point of view. Your advice on raising Christian children has been very welcomed.

Many of us here are very glad to have a conversation with those interested in conversing with us. I have been unwelcome in most other Christian boards simply for being Catholic. I consider myself to be a somewhat gentle Christian. If ever I have not been so, please accept my apologies.

I hope you return soon.

You bring up a good point. We don’t know the facts surrounding her accusations that “The forum has become, instead, a place for Catholics to put down people who are not Catholic and be rude.”

What are the specific details that prompted her departure? Did someone respond to an anti-Catholic post? Or disagree to something that she said?

I must say, I do take offense at many of these Protestants that come to this forum and try to “Evangelize”. Which really seems to be a cover for spouting anti-Catholic sentiments.

I think its a shame that she is leaving. Because it seems to me that any Protestant that sticks around and debates the differences, ends up converting to Catholicism. What a blessing!

The true blasphemous shame we should all be focusing on is the rise in anti-Catholicism. Its not just here on this forum, its everywhere. And it socially acceptable.

Has anyone checked out any Protestant forums for rudeness or Catholic put downs?

Try googling “rapture”? Do it. See how the Catholic church comes up as the whore of Babylon and the Pope as the rider on the White Horse in Revelation re-uniting the Roman Empire. What a bunch of hogwash!

Because I believe her. I think there are rude posters on this board - they are the ones who need to take a break so I second the idea… if there are posts that are especially nasty, please report them to a mod.

Syele has been a regular on here long enough to know that we don’t agree with everything her Church teaches so I am certain she’s not complaining because somebody posted something contrary to her beliefs - it’s not always what we say - but how we say it.

Rather than dismissing her, let’s try to all be a little nicer. My Priest just said we should all practice mercy as followers of Christ.

Besides, how boring would it be if all of our Protestant posters left? The discussions are so much more interesting because they are here.

I’m sorry, but believing her is not a viable option:
Lately, it has been none of that. The forum has become, instead, a place for Catholics to put down people who are not Catholic and be rude.
That is a massive sweeping characterization of the forum that simply isn’t true. Of course there are some rude posters here, but this goes way beyond that–it’s declaring the forums anti-Protestant. That’s a serious charge that requires serious substantiation.

There are going to be rude people wherever you go. I’m sorry you feel you have to leave. (And admit to being largely ignorant of what you’re talking about, considering I only joined yesterday!)

Hi Syele,
Hey there. I understand where you are coming from. I have thought of leaving several times but it is just too addicting:hypno:
I dont post as much as I use to. There comes a point when the conversation becomes pointless on both sides of the coin.😦

I have enjoyed our conversations. Send me PM’s when you are around. God Bless and God speed.

Keep on spreading the Good News:D

Bye Syele. It is a shame to see you go. Maybe take a break and come back.

firstly, you’re misquoting
secondly, you’re being wilfully blind IMO

Me too.🙂 I sometimes think arguing about Christianity over the internet a very_bad_habit of mine…🤷

I am a Catholic that joined here fairly close to the site’s inception. I do not post here as often as I once did, moreso due to lack of time more than anything else. The signature I have opted to utilize which comes from the book of Sirach is that it is wise to not play the hypocrite before those we encuntered and to be careful what we say. That certainly applies to these forums and I have specifically chosen that Scripture due to what I have seen from other posters here (albeit many here are quite civil and that needs to be pointed out as well).

If you need to take a break for a while, a sebatical may be a good option. Please pray to keep the lines of communication open however. Never decide to permaneantly close the door (which it appears you are not doing since you indicated that you will be back from time to time).

God bless!

Maybe if Syele moved away from Non-Catholic Religions over to Lit & Sac, Spirituality or the Clubhouse- they’re a bit more chilled about Protestants (although don’t mention Mahoney in L & S if you want a relaxed time.

There are just some forums you have to stay away from and some people you have to ignore.

The fora are only as good as the persons who post. Before we post something that may appear hostile to another person, we need to consider how it will sound to him. For many Protestants, these fora may be the only interaction they have with Catholics. If we speak uncharitably, it may drive Protestants away from the Catholic Church completely, and may only serve to reinforce their opinions of the Catholic Church (even if these opinions are not true). I would feel very bad if somebody who is possibly thinking of converting to Catholicism instead is driven away by uncharitable comments by people on these fora and permanently rejects the Catholic Church as a result.

When I first cam to this forum, Non-Catholic religions was an interesting and fun place to be. I wasn’t here to convert anyone but to clear up misconceptions about protestants and I have always been willing to have my own misconceptions about Catholics cleared up. This used to result in lively interesting conversations that not only helped me learn to defend my faith but spurred on my own study of Scripture. To all of you who were in those conversations (Like Lak and MariaG and the protestants like AllForHim (sorry I didn’t name everyone)), I will miss you guys and for you I won’t delete. I’ll poke in now and then to check PMs.

Lately, it has been none of that. The forum has become, instead, a place for Catholics to put down people who are not Catholic and be rude. Therefore I have no reason to believe there is any point to continuing here while this is the way things are going to be. It is with a sad heart I leave.
Maybe you would be happier on the Matt Slick site.

I was banned there today, this time for posting a catholic link in a reply in which I was aked for it.

I have previously been banned there for quoting scriptures and church fathers.

This is a serious accusation. Can you provide any examples of this “putting down”, “rudeness” and “bigotry”? Being uncharitable is against the forum rules and you should report it to the moderators. Unless you tell us who said what that offended you, every Catholic on this forum is tainted by your accusation.

My observation has been that CA is one of the very few sites on the net where uncharitable put-downs are not tolerated. And that Catholics here show much more rudeness towards their fellow Catholics than towards protestants.

I know I have taken part in discussions with you but I can’t remember about what. But I’m afraid I can’t apologise for insults which I don’t know what they were, who posted them or if they even really exist.

I’m a recent new commer here, but I can relate to the OP and their sentiments. I came here to learn from Catholics what they believe instead of the misconceptions Protestants have of them…what an eye opener!!! For a group that wants others to see the truth and beauty in their faith and understand it enough to no longer hold those “misconeptions”, Catholics are no strangers to holding false beliefs about Protestants…inflamatory sentiments like “There’s over 30000 versions of Protestants…” or “Protestants are heretics…”
…I can understand a whole lot better with kindess and patience…instead of hateful phrases and attitudes
Sorry but those two statements are not “false beliefs”, “misconceptions”, “infammmatory”, or “hateful”. Nor are they even “sentiments”. They are simple facts. There are over 30,000 protestant denominations - this figure comes from protestant and neutral sources, not catholic ones. And a belief which is not orthodox Christianity is heresy. Look it up in the dictionary. “Heresy” comes from the Greek word meaning “choice”. If you find it “inflammatory” maybe that reflects your anxiety about your “choice” of beliefs, rather than anyone else’s “hatred” of you.

To the OP, people who behave badly are usually insecure. A very sad reflection on our faith.
