Any Americans on here with Irish ancestry?

Someone disagreeing with you is not judgement. I based what I said about that newspaper on th e link you gave me and what I read there. The first 3 stories in the News section were designed to promote anger against immigrants. I know how to read propaganda. Like I said, don’t tell me about it…talk to your fellow parishioners…and see how they express their voice…also I recommend you show that news section to your parish priest…

BTW Ireland is not being destroyed…are you still able to go to mass? Is someone stopping you? I used to think like that until I realized that I needed to worry about my own sins and not everyone elses. For them, you should pray…that is all you can do…and maybe form communities with your fellow parishioners to avoid any things you don’t like invading your community…

All Americans are Irish around St. Patrick’s Day 😉

I am of Irish descent, among other ethnicities.

I think it’s important to remember that the Catholic Church predates every government currently on earth and will postdate them all, unless Christ’s second coming comes sooner.

We should let our Faith defines who we truly are, not our nationality. Be at peace.

Just a final comment on this thread…I got this from the about section in that paper…
“While reasonable numbers of immigrants of European, Christian origin can be integrated, we reject the PC lie that Africans, Muslims, and other Third World victims of Western imperialist skills and people theft, can ever be Irish. They cannot and, if the Irish nation is to survive, they must be sent home.”
Like I said…racist!

I’m mostly Irish. I could be an Irish citizen if I wanted. My parent is an Irish and American citizen.

Ireland’s relationship with the Catholic Church is complicated. Ireland was so poor and they had no societal or cultural organization to turn to except the Catholic Church 50-100 years ago. This meant the Catholic Church ran Ireland basically for a while. The Catholic Church is not equipped to run a country, so there were major problems…severe child abuse, the Taum Children, Magdalene Laundries, etc…

The Irish people and government are reacting to these past problems, but I do hope and think they’ll find there way back to the Catholic Church. It may take a while. The Irish won’t be going to any other Christian faith any time soon. Honestly, I think the Irish will either be Catholic or Pagan. That is just kind of who they are…

My grandfather was mostly Irish. I think I’m about 20 to 25% percent. Unfortunately, things are getting more rabidly liberal & anti-Christian here in the states. Not to the point of Ireland, but unless we get another revival here, it is going to become more and more anti-God & anti-American here.

That is racist. It is undeniable.

I am a faithful Catholic and like the Holy Father and most bishops and priests I think that this is racist.

I agree with the original poster about the fact that Ireland has changed in a bad way (the evil of abortion, Varadkar’s views and personal life etc) but I believe that that comment from the newspaper was racist.

This poses an interesting issue (to me), that is, whether the desire to retain one’s native language, customs, religion, and so on, is a racist notion. I don’t know how I would feel about this if I were Irish and living in Ireland. Living in the U.S. is quite different since we are a country of immigrants.

I think that retaining one’s language, customs, religion is not racist at all. I am Catholic and I will always stand steadfast to my faith.

I was making the point that specifically singling out African and Muslim immigrants is worrying and racist.

Racism may very well be the underlying feeling involved here, or perhaps it is the disparity in language, custom, and religion that is the root cause. Maybe both.

You don’t live in Ireland so how could you possibly understand what is going on here? Your comments prove that fact. Many came to Ireland and are now pushing a certain narrative supported fully by the Government and mainstream media. They want Ireland to change to suit their beliefs and cultures and are demanding equal rights and the media are telling us how bad the Irish are and Ireland must change.

Who did I insult? You are a Sinn Féin member so of course you will disagree. No racism but I wouldn’t expect a Sinn Féin supporter to get that.

Why are Sinn Féin saying Bobby Sands died for gay rights??

The particular forum user you have mentioned has in fact used the link I provided and twisted it to suit his narrative. The elephant in room is immigration in Ireland but we are not allowed to talk about it.

That old chestnut. Patrick Pearse was born at Great Brunswick Street in Dublin. His mother Margaret Brady was Irish, from Dublin. How was his father a migrant? He was English!

James Connolly’s parents, John Connolly and Mary where IRISH from County Monaghan. His parents had moved to Scotland.

Thomas Clarke - parents Mary Palmer and James Clarke were IRISH.

They all had Irish blood in them and died for Ireland. Your point is ridiculous. Ireland certain has uncontrolled immigration, our borders are open and no background checks. Anyone can come here, and Flanagan never deports illegals. Wake up.

Please, just because I have a different opinion is insulting now? I don’t see you flagging and reporting the comments who insulting me? Is that because you agree with their opinion?

This discussion is pointless because you are Sinn Féin. I know your policies and we will not agree.

I am talking about ancestry. Irish culture and identity is unique and must be preserved.
If a person was born in Ireland to Chinese parents the child is Chinese just like if I had of been born in India to Irish parents I would be Irish.

Many are coming to Ireland that want Ireland to change to suit their beliefs and cultures. The have no intention of integrating but want Ireland to be changed forever for them.
