I have just started listening to country music this year. (recovering metal fan here) THe first time that I heard Big n Riches Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy I almost fell out of my chair. I I love them. I also like Gretchen Wilson for the line, “…I aint never been the barbie doll type.” from Red Neck Woman. As a nonbarbie doll type, I can relate. I love Toby Keith and Trace Atkins. LIke I said, I am just getting into country.

If you like a bit ‘harder bit’ to your country try listening to Travis Tritt, the new group Van Zant (the VanZant brothers one from Skynard and the other is from 38Special). If you can get a hold of some 'vintage 1990’s country, the group Kentucky HeadHunters will be of your liking.

I too am a recent convert to country! Toby Keith ❤️ , Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry, Brooks & Dunn…'nuff said :bounce:

Check out the “New-Grass” sound. It is not bluegrass it’s newgrass. It is rockin yet twangy! Also check out some of the Alt-Country bands that are out there:

Over the last few months, I have been listening to country music a lot. I used to be more of a fan of rock music and classic rock, but so much of it seems so sad or angry. I find country music a lot more uplifting and generally favorable to traditional values and Christianity. What do you all think?

Rascal Flatts is one of my most favorite country singers. They’re so uplifting 😃 👍
 
Rascal Flatts are from Columbus, Ohio and in their early years (mid to late 1990’s) they’d play in Cleveland quite often. It was a treat to watch and know that the band would make it someday.

I like just about all music, especially classical choral, rock, and I do like country. (Hey - I’m a cowgirl, what else would I like?).

As long as it isn’t too sappy. I don’t care for the pretty boy country singers, and Garth Brooks makes me sick.
But I really like the Angry American sounds of Toby Keith. I like the patriotic and family oriented sounds from Alan Jackson, Dave Wourly (sp),. I like western sounds and my heart will always be with Chris LeDoux. And lately I really like Montegomery-Gentry. There is only one female singer I really like - Martina McBride.

There are some groups that I think are just profane. I don’t like how their songs focus on dirty stuff and womenizing. (Hillbilly Lovin’ in the Hay, Pickin’ Wildflowers, ) just gross.

Country has many different sounds for different people.
 
I like talent, regardless of genre. My favorite country artists are Brad Paisley, George Strait, Darryl Worley, Keith Urban, Sawyer Brown, Alabama, and Wynonna. Toby Keith had great songs with “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” and “American Soldier”, but his stuff since then is :banghead: terrible. I have absolutely NO desire to hear about the activities in “Mexico” or the first verse of “I ain’t as good as I once was”. That’s my biggest problem right now, with a toddler who is beginning to talk. I pick up musical lyrics really easily, so I have to be careful about what is on, since at least one of my kids is bound to have that talent.

I used to enjoy Reba, until I heard her version of “O Holy Night” The warbling just gets to you after a while. And now I can’t listen to too many female artists because I keep telling them to put some clothes on when their videos are on. There’s got to be a 12-step program for people like me. :whacky:

I have to laugh at this one. We took my then 4 y/o Granddaughter to church one day and it was announced that we would be singing. She promptly, in her LOUDEST voice began singing “I Love This Bar” I could have died but those around us started chuckling. What’s even funnier is that this happened in my BF’s SDA church!! I STILL laugh. :rotfl: everytime I hear Toby.
