Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones

the best shows!
How could anyone say the Game of Thrones is a good show? This is the sort of show no Christian should watch with it objectification of women in gratuitous sex and nudity and the unnecessary violence! I am no prude and enjoy shoot em ups with a bit of humour like the Lethal weapon series for examples. It is hard to find any movie without some nudity except for the excellent BBC productions of Miss Marple and Poirot by Christie and Death in Paradise. But the Game of Thrones goes too far.
There are some really good shows on tv but you have to use your judgement.

If people want to watch GoT they should buy the seasons or have a HBO sub then they should download the censored torrents so they wont see the nudity and they wont be stealing so that is the only good way to watch GoT.

Downton Abbey is a good show on PBS. Bad behavior has consequences and is not glamorized. Lots of examples of good Christian behavior too. Where people help each other.

otherwise not much to watch on Tv if you are a practicing Christian leading a chaste life. The only comedy I like is The Big Bang Theory. At least they seem to have toned down the bed hopping, and they do have other topics that are funny other than bathroom or sex humor that seems to be on all the other shows.

I would higly recomend to you The Count of Monte Cristo

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Count_of_Monte_Cristo_(2002_film

Starring Guy Pearce and Jim Caviezel (The man who played jesus, in the passion of christ).

An excellent movie about betrayal and redemption, one of the my personal favorites.
The Catholic theme is easily identifiable.

That vengeance belongs to God.

Boy meets world is pretty great but it is from the 90s.
They’re doing another version of the show, with Cory and Topanga grown up and having kids of their own! My daughters are so excited–they loved this show, and purchased all the DVDs and will often sit and watch them for hours whenever they come home (which isn’t often, since they are grown up and have busy lives in other parts of the country now).

Here’s the link to the new show: imdb.com/title/tt2543796/

Unfortunately, it’s on cable.

Isn’t it interesting how we all have different standards for what is a “good” show?

I find The Big Bang Theory horribly offensive and not funny at all. I hate the stereotypes of intelligent people, especially the character on the show who is so very effeminate (the actor is militantly homosexual in real life). My husband and I grew up as the “class brains,” and it was nothing like this show, and I despise any art piece that makes “brains” out to be weirdoes. We suffered enough from people who made fun ofus; my husband even had food thrown at him. He used to lie about his grades and report cards so that the other kids wouldn’t make fun of him.

Earlier someone mentioned Everyone Loves Raymond as a decent show? Decent? Since when is it decent for a woman to castigate her husband and make him look like a fool? So many comedies (and tv commercials) have a plot in which the woman is obviously much smarter than her dumb-bunny husband, who manages to make a mess out of everything he does and always gets rescued by his well-organized, brilliant wife/girlfriend/mother. I HATE shows and commercials that do this to men!

Finally, I find any of the “violent” shows utterly unacceptable for me. I can’t understand why anyone would want to watch the CSI shows that delve into all kinds of grisly “death methods.” This would eat into my soul and make me gloomy and despairing, as well as terrified that a murderer is waiting for me.

All this being said, I think that we need to be careful not to be so high and mighty that we routinely do a blanket condemnation of “EVERYTHING” on TV and in the films. There are a lot of good shows and films, and even the shows that I personally don’t find acceptable, others find much good in, and I’ll go along with that!

We watched the first episode of “Extant” tonight and so far it’s a great show. The show stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who comes home somehow pregnant from a space mission she was on–alone–for 13 months. To add to the issues, her hubby has created a robotic boy who looks and act exactly like the real thing, icluding having emotions like love (highly unlikely but a quaint idea)–except there’s something dark about him. Anyway, it kept my attention for an hour!

Thanks for letting me know.

I’ve seen promos. Is she pregnant with an alien? Or they don’t let us know yet?

On Food Network, the Pioneer Woman has a pretty nice show.

She’s the wife of a rancher, has 4 children and prepares food that she feeds her kids and husband.

She has a beautiful kitchen (I’m pretty sure that’s her home). I’m envious of her stand mixer

But,her food is somewhat hearty, so if one has an office job as opposed to being a rancher, perhaps smaller portions. 😉

I honestly don’t know. She’s pregnant but I don’t have a clue who the baby-daddy is. It’s almost like real life on earth today! LOL!

“The Brady Bunch,” “Gilligan’s Island,” and “I Dream of Jeannie” are all on MeTV.

‘Antenna TV’ still shows “Diff’rent Strokes” every week. (“What’cha talkin’ about, Willis?”)

All good, decent, family-friendly shows. 👍

I love the old shows too–infact we watch Frazier and the Golden Girls and George Lopez late at night almost always. There aren’t as many good new shows as there once were, but there, are some. The show “Tyrant” is one such show in my opinion–as is “The Dome” and “Extant” When someone happens on to a good new show and watches one, I always love to hear what it is—there’s only so many old shows that anyone wants to see–or haven’t already seen 19 times already! Old shows get old!

I just remembered My Little Pony and watched an episode today. It’s pretty good, and has a surprisingly wide audience. It has moral lessons, like one I saw was about not being prideful. No questionable stuff (as far as I’ve seen, only a few episodes overall) since it’s really just about friendship and is meant for little girls. And yet it’s interesting, not so geared toward little kids that it has anything like learning how to count or read or any of that stuff.

I like the oldies, like the old BBC detective dramas; Agatha Christie, Cadfael, Poirot. I loved the ‘Little House’ series and you can find all the classics on film. If you haven’t seen it; ‘Touched by an Angel’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven’ are gorgeous too. You might have to dig a bit but there’s lots out there. There’s a ‘Religious/Inspirational’ section on Netflix, too.
Are you thinking of the Michael Landon series Highway to Heaven?

The BBC are doing Chesterton’s Fr. Brown mysteries. I think they’re on series 3 at the moment. It’s not on Netflix yet but certainly keep an eye out for it!
If you are in the U.S. check the schedule for your local PBS station. Some of them are carrying the Father Brown series.

Is the SyFy series Dominion anti-catholic?

It is based on the movie called “Legion” depicting the Angel Gabriel waging war against mankind.

Thanks!

Joe

Two words for you
Korean drama , ive talked about this before but Korean TV censors are still pretty strict and you will find tons of them that are very acceptable. Now you have to be pretty open to read subtitles as that is the only way to understand them unless you learn Korean overnight lol
Some are terribly cliched but there’s a lot of them that are so good and leave you with such nice warm feelings that I’ve never found on western tv shows.

You can watch them for free on dramafever.com or viki.com
If you want recommendations you can ask here or PM me as there are literally hundreds of them since they only run from 12-24 episodes

Korean variety shows are also very funny and not objectionable at all Nothing like western reality shows at all. Some of my faves are Running Man and We Got Married.

AMEN TO THE KOREAN SHOWS!!!

My wife and I have watched about 100 different series on Hulu (free) in the “Korean” TV Genre. Korea is about 60 years behind us in morality on TV (and I mean that in a good way). The shows are really good (with English subtitles).

We’ve watched mostly the historical dramas, but for some contemporary shows you might want to watch “Bride of the Century”, which we just finished. BTW - for all the Korean shows, ignore the Hulu “summary” on the show web page - they dramatically understate the “depth” of the shows. Also, the first episode is usually confusing because of character similar names and unclear family relationships, but make it past the first episode and they get more clear. And on the historical dramas you need to “get past” the funny hairstyles and hats.

We’re currently watching “You’re Beautiful” and it is reminiscent of I Love Lucy but with a young romantic twist.

"Shining Inheritance" was a very good contemporary show as well.

Another good show was “Loving you 1000 times” but it’s not on Hulu and I’m not sure where to find it (I had the DVDs).

For action and adventure:

IRIS 1
IRIS 2
Athena
City Hunter

Some recommended historical dramas:

The Moon Embracing the Sun
Ja Myung Go (sad ending however)
King Geungchogo
Queen Seundeuk
Su- baek Hyang, The King’s Daughter
The Queen and I (this is a mix of contemporary and historical)
Rooftop Prince (comedy, mix of contemporary and historical).

There are many many more good shows. Note: as I searched for some of the above shows just now, I couldn’t find them, it’s possible that Hulu removed them.

The only one in this section of Hulu I would NOT recommend is Yacha (first episode is incredibly violent, and very much unlike the other shows).
