I’m a HUGE fan of Poe. 😃 I hope to buy a collection of his stories and poems for myself soon. My absolute favorite poem of his is probably ‘The Raven’, and ‘The Black Cat’ and ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ are tied for my favorite short story.

Any fellow Poe fans out there? What’s your favorite poem/short story and why? 🙂

It’s been a while but I used to read Poe stories and poems over and over.

My favorites:

The Cask of Amontillado and the Masque of the Red Death tale

Anabelle Lee and Lenore for poems.

Cask of Amontillado…and something about a Monkey’s Paw…or maybe that was another author…???
Anyway, yes, love Poe!

I have loved Edgar Allan Poe since I was 12 years old and asked for a book of his for Christmas. I loved the Raven for its rhythm and content even though I could hardly understand the meaning. Then I read many of his stories. The Tell Tale Heart and the Cask of the Amontillado. And many more. Though it has been many years since I have actually read his works I still light up inside when I think of his writings.

This thread reminds me of a splendid poem written in the style of Poe… It’s Humpty Dumpty, but with a twist. Written by Dylan Curry:
Code:
Once upon a wall of stone
Sat Humpty Dumpy all alone
Shrouded in a web of gloom
His fate as near as tomorrow's tomb

For earth called him
As he teetered and fell
And the ground took him
And mangled his shell

All the angels in heaven
And Demons below
Were soaked in yolk
As they fought for his soul

Now my own days grow shorter
The final hour is soon
And as Humpty before me
I must bid you adieu.
😃

“The Monkey’s Paw” was W.W, Jacobs but it is a gem of a story and very Poe like. My favorites of Poe include The Black Cat and The Raven as well,

YES! The Raven, FTW.

That Monkey’s Paw story is creeeeeepppy. LOL

I LOVE Poe! There is a restaurant where I live named Poe’s. The menu is Poe themed. When you go to the restroom, instead of hearing music, you hear his writings. The first time I went, my husband got worried that I was sick because I was in the restroom for so long. I was just standing in there listening. hahaha.

“the black cat”, “the cask of amontillado” and “the fall of the house of usher”. we had to read them in school and i remember them being so creepy but very entertaining and suspenseful. Poe was certainly a master of his genre.

ME!!! :D:D:D I love Edgar Allan Poe! I wrote a 30+ page research paper on him in 7th grade! 😉

My absolute favorite would have to be “The Tell-Tale Heart”! I’ve read it hundreds of times…literally. I can recite nearly all of it from memory!..

“TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?” …;)😃

I have always “connected”, so to speak, with Poe’s writings on an artistic level as I love to write, and my writing has always been a bit dark. So, in that respect, I felt that some of his writings were things that I could have written myself. Aside from that, I thought some of his stories were just amazingly well written and entertaining!

That sounds absolutely amazing! I wish there was something like that in my town!

Really great answers coming in! I wasn’t expecting so many responses in such a short amount of time. 🙂

And that poem by Dylan Curry… 👍

I’m pretty sure **The Monkey’s Paw **was by someone else.

My favorite writings of his are the The Fall of the House of Usher, Ligeia and the poem “Helen.”

“Helen, thy beauty is to me,
Like those Nicaean barks of yore
That softly, over a perfumed sea,
The weary wayworn traveller bore
To his own native shore.”

Yes indeed, I like most of his work very much. And his strange life, with the mysterious ending, is quite fascinating, too.

Ive loved poe since I was a kid. The fall of the house of usher is great but demon in my view is probably my favorite poem of his. Roald Dahl (yeah the kids author) wrote some fantastic twisted short stories too. He has a collection called Skin that is amazing.

i like movies with poe scripts ,likewise characters played by Vincent Price.

Are any of you familliar with the album (from the 1970s) entitled Edgar Allen Poe’s Tales of Mystery and Imagination? It’s by the Alan Parsons Project, and it is a musical interpretation of several Poe tales. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I’ve always been fascinated by Poe! I memorized “The Raven” and “Annabell Lee” when I was in high school! And the story of the mysterious man who would leave roses and a bottle of absinthe on his grave on the anniversary of Poe’s birth (or was it death?) in Baltimore made me want to be there to witness it. I understand it hasn’t happened in recent years. More mystery to the man…

Also, there is some controversy to the place of repose besides for that.
There are TWO cities that claim Poe.
Interesting to say the least.
