As another poster said, it is not like the
scripted reality shows here. It is just all very innocent other than someone must exit at the end of each show.
I don’t know what night it is on, but I think this week is the finale.

I enjoy watching it, too.

I have it in my watch list on Netflix now. 🙂

I didn’t know it was on Netflix! I will have to look for previous episodes.

Yes, it’s there! 😀

I know…

It’s hard for me to find things on there. I really have to look hard…

You can always find things by using the search bar at the top of the page on there.

They have a good search function on there. That is what I’ll end up doing if I know something is supposed to be listed on there and I can’t find it. It saves a lot of time from just trying to browse and just scroll through the whole menu. 🙂

It’s on Friday night on PBS.

Sometimes the episode reruns on Sunday evening, an hour or more before the Downton Abbey rerun.

Like you, I appreciate that the bakers are all excellent; they only fail to advance when they have a bad bake. So different from the casual cruelty of more scripted reality shows!

I was thinking Friday evening because I am usually looking for something to watch before Dateline comes on.
I will have to remember to watch it tomorrow night.

I make Mary Berry’s Bakewell tart on Christmas and on my birthday.

It’s my favorite tart.

Maybe a lemon meringue or key lime pie would more to the British taste, as the citrus flavor can undercut and offset any sweetness.

My Welsh friend loves key lime pie.

Oh, I love that show!

In the first season I saw (may or may not have been the actual first season), I was so impressed by Martha, the high school student who made it to the quarter finals, I think.

Nadiya was an amazing contestant, as were her fellow finalists. What an amazing season that one was!

Ever since I saw my first episode of this show, I have wanted to make a Swiss roll, but I’ve still never tried it. What are two people gonna do with a whole Swiss roll? 😂

On season 5, which we are currently watching, one of the young men made a key Lime Pie and Paul Hollywood said that it was one of the best things he had ever tasted on that show!

You’re right, the British palate definitely doesn’t seem to favor super sweet. I know a lot of Americans who don’t like super sweet–whenever I’ve made Divinity Fudge (which is basically pure sugar), most of my friends who try it take just one small piece and then say, “It’s just so sweet!”

I, on the other hand, eat Divinity Fudge by the handful, which is one reason I don’t make it very often.

The other reason I don’t make it very often is that it’s a pain–you have to beat it forever, and if the humidity isn’t just right, the candy doesn’t set and I end up throwing it all away.

I had an aunt who specialized in making Divinity Fudge–every Christmas she made pink and white Divinity with black walnuts that she cracked and picked herself. Mmmmm! (So the “sweet tooth” runs in our family.)

I would be a terrible Brit.

I saw the episode with the key lime pie.
It looked delicious!
I love key lime pie.

What is the name of the host - the lady with the short black hair and glasses?

I don’t care for her. She hosted a BBC documentary where she toured some country that was Buddhist and she was with the monks. She must be popular in
England.

Her name’s Sue Perkins. She doesn’t present the latest series, neither does the other host Mel.
Oh, thanks for the info. Now that I see her name I do remember hearing that name.
So the new episodes will not be on BBC but another channel?

The last series and all new series will be on Channel 4 in the UK, but the programme and format is the same. There was a backlash when the programme moved, and Mel, Sue and Mary left. The new hosts are Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig, and the new judge is Prue Leith.
