I wouldn’t say I was an idiot then. I was ignorant of a lot of things and the LDS church told me to stay away from things that weren’t faith promoting so it was somewhat difficult to become better informed. Then there was heavy family pressure to be LDS. Don’t underestimate the emotional impact of the LDS church. And it’s easy to fool yourself if you WANT to believe bad enough. I mean to become a GOD is a HUGE temptation to one not well versed in anything other than the LDS religion. The “bitterness” should be easy to understand. it’s not like changing to a new car. It’s a realization that you wasted so many years on the path to hell when you could have been following God in his true church. There is anger at the deliberate deceptions perpetrated, guilt over all the people that I taught and encouraged to be mormon. People that I led astray because I believed in Joseph Smith. All the time, talent and treasure that I did not use for God or fellow man but rather dedicated to masonic rituals on the behalf of dead people.
Mega ditto!

If that was the Church that Jesus ran and had decided was his Church, well then screw Jesus. But maybe not. Maybe there was a peace, a middle church, a church that led its members to plateaus of spirituality with the voice of the Good Shepherd calling His lost sheep unto Him. quote]

To c_miles way of thinking (he is and always has been a Mormon) Jesus is just another man who happened to get this 3rd rock from a minor red giant in one of the hundreds of thousands of solar systems in the Milky Way.

So what does a little blasphemy hurt?

A “middle church” like Middle Earth, maybe? And all Mormons are Hobbits with many wives (but forget the ale and pipes, brothers).

The last highlighted sentence is also a Mormon tried-and-true cliche in missionary work: the idea (taken from ONE line in the Bible) that the “lost sheep” that Jesus is going to visit are the Laminates and Nehi-ites and Alma Maters of America.

“Plateaus of spirituality?” Is this like some hill in Zion National Park??

But what really brought me to realize this is the right church is perhaps the strangest thing in the world: my class comparing the Tanakh with other Ancient Near Eastern texts

. I was astounded to learn that there is a large consensus among scholars that the original Hebrew religion was monolatry (worshipping one god but not denying the existence of others, "For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

Look at that quote above. And this is from someone who claims to be a Catholic! The Tanakh is a recent invention of Jewish religious thought: a canon that ALL Jews throughout the world can refer to in Hebrew or in another language.

The Tanakh is NOT an “Ancient Near Eastern text.” and NO Catholic or Public college anywhere would permit such a historical faux pas to pass as academic truth.

The claim of monolatry is a Mormon claim to bolster THEIR belief in MANY GODS. Abraham was not a Jew. God spoke to him and gave him his covenant on condition that he acknowledge that the many gods of the various tribes and peoples were forgotten. This is the concept of the ‘idol’ in Jewish thought: something material or unknown and unprovable takes the place of ‘El’ the Eternal One.

c_miles needs to understand Jewish history and theology better. If he were a practising Catholic, a baptized Catholic, he might have had a chance to learn these things.

But
to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him." 1 Cor. 8:5-6) that God had a wife in their original belief system, that God was most definitely anthropomorphic, that the Greco-“Christian” concept of a God was totally un-imaginable to the anicent Hebrews (just read the Old and New Testament, yeah, that’s a God who has no passion or parts), that creation ex nihilo was never a part of Judaism or Christianity until they were

Some of you were Mormons for 30 years!!! Now, you say that we are idiots, and that the Mormon beliefs are ridiculous and easily rebuked. It must not be that easy. I mean come on 30 years!!! Now we are supposed to believe you, who was supposedy and idiot for 30 years, instead of the facts and the spirit? I’ll stay where I’m at thankyou. Watch out you other catholics if they ever switch to something else. I can understand leaving the Mormon church, but then to trash it? I see a lot of bitterness.
Some of us were never Mormons, but we’ve seen the damage done. In the larger sense, Mormonism is no worse than any other cult… the Moonies, the JWs, People’s Temple (RIP), Christian Science, and all the rest. Apart from the despicable false teachings of these, which claim among other things that the martyrs who went to the lions were apostates, these cults do their worst damage by keeping good people away from the True Church, the Catholic Church. They lie as a matter of course. Even when they think they’re telling the truth, they are yet lying. They lead good people into the jaws of eternal damnation through their lies and false teachings.

We’re all nice people, but when we find roaches in our cupboard, we squash 'em. Don’t be surprised that we don’t like roaches in our kitchen, where WE pay the bills. If Mormons want to be treated better than roaches, then let them act better, by telling the truth, arguing honestly, and knowing that they are guests here.

You guys are funny. Fuss fuss fuss. I think the original poster has “done give out” on this string. Now if I was going to show up in Upstate NY to design my own religion I would have had Joey Smith’s ideas on how babes have to line up to marry old guys too - Smith, you sly dog! But how on Earth the old guy gave them this whole bunch of stuff about bloodlines and horses and Aztecs that would get blown away as soon as we learned about genetics - oops, time to switch to plan B. If I’d have designed it, coffee, sausage, and chocolate would have been okay. No, they’d have been required! Yes - gotta have 'em - that’s the ticket!

Better idea Joey - write it up as a science fiction book with super powerful Aliens first, then design it into a rich stupid people’s religion so you can quit writing for a living!

Now I’m completely convinced that Catholic_miles and Zerinus are one and the same person. Note the anachronistic use of the word “unto” by both personalities.

Holy deception, Batman!

Maybe they are persons of some unholy trinity. One can only wonder what life forms are found on Kolob apart from flesh and blood gods.

Paul,

I think Robin would have said, “Holy Kleenex, Batman, it was right under our noses and we blew it!”

What the heck is Kolob?
Some Mormon ‘scholars’ call it a planet.

Other Mormon ‘scholars’ say it is a star.

I think it’s a tomato.

It was mentioned in their Book of Abraham.

Again, another bizarre reason for c_miles, wademann and the Zerinus minions to believe “the testimony of the Holy Spirit” that Mormonism is the one true church.

Oh, I forgot one thing.

You have to wear that hole-y underwear to get there when you become your own little god or goddess.

WHAT! A planet? Where? What’s there?..man I have to read more on this, I know a ton on JW’s cus they come by the car load, but LDS are fewer between and seem more squeamish when confronted. A planet of what, for what? No wonder Zerinus is what he is, he’s a natural ‘astral gamer’. So, is it or isn’t it a tomato?😛 😛

I love throwing my garden kolobs at those corvidae, those pesky crows and magpies, who believe that there is such a thing as a free lunch in this universe.

Think of kolob as a metaphor for Mormonism.

If this whole new planet for new god stuff is real, it had to start somewhere, correct? Kolob. Sounds like something from Star Trek episode 5.

Why not on a tomato (okay, THEY call it a planet!). I mean le petit prince lived on a very small planet with a very large baobob tree, so anything is possible, correct?

What? You say Le Petit Prince is fiction? No, really? But not the Book of Mormon, right? I mean, JSmith used a ‘seer stone’ to copy those passages from the KJV of Isaiah, that’s gotta mean it’s authentic, right?

Okay, if you don’t quit laughing at me, I’m gonna go see my wives…

You’ve convinced me it is time to close this thread.

My goodness, as opposed to lining up little boys. Talk about lies and deceit. The catholic church is full of them. They are throwing a bunch of elderly people out of a mobile home park in my area, because the catholc church had to sell it to pay for the lawsuits. Talk about idiots and fools, you guys are paying for these pedafiles because the church covered it up for years. Talk about ruining lives and going to hell. WOW!!! You guys have lost your minds!!!

Don’t even go there. Do you know how much the Mormon Church has paid out to settle similar lawsuits? – millions. This thread really needs to be closed when people start tossing out this garbage.

The garbage is being tossed out by you guys. There is absolutely no comparison between cases of child abuse and paedophilia that has emerged in the Catholic Church and any in the LDS Church.
