Hello all,
I am reading through all this and it reminds me of my story. When I grew up, I listen to heavy doses of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth and Motorhead. I wasnât Catholic at the time and I just listened to it for the sound. Also, being a rather awkward teenager I needed some music I could yell my lungs out to !
But, when I converted back in 2002, I slowly weaned myself from secular metal. I got married in 2003 and I reasoned with myself that I wanted a Christ-centered home, and didnât want any of that in my house. I was lucky, but I know a lot of people who took the metal messages very seriously and have all sorts of problemsâŚThe message that a band gives should not be taken lightly. Why fill your ears and eyes with stuff that is contrary to the faith that you profess?
Fastforward to Holy Thursday 2008. I bought my first Christian metal CD, Demon Hunterâs âStorm the Gates of Hell.â Fantastically agressive Christian Music! Since then, I have been reading as much as I can about the Christian metal scene. It is small compared to the secular scene, but the musicianship is fantastic.

It has interviews and reviews of CDs and all sorts of nifty stuff. There are other review sites, but this one seems to be the new standard.
I have also started my own thrash metal project this year (Last Rites). I want to use this vehicle to share my Catholic faith. Please check it out (link in the signature) and feel free to comment on it.

Sorry to say I havenât heard anything new lately worth listening to. Recently though Iâve been taking many trips down memory lane thanks to Youtube. They have a bunch of good Maiden stuff on there and I can find a surprising amount of Over Kill stuff on there too. I understand Mustaine is working on a new album and hopefully that will be out sometime in the near future.So, anyone listen to any good heavy metal lately?

Hell yea Iâm a metalhead! Iâm into stuff like Slipknot, Slayer, Suffocation, Necrophagist and other awesome heavy bands! I just saw Metallica on Sunday and they were incredible.

Yes, I saw 183 posts so thought okay I wonât be singled out and burnt at the stake here. Metallica. I just got the chance to see this tour. I think theyâve evolved. I have everything theyâve put out but I tend to like certain eras of their metaldom more than others,

The old Metallica was great. âAnd Justice for Allâ was their last good album.
That said, I havenât bothered with their most recent one which came out last year (I had sworn off Metallica after a string of painfully bad albums). Is it any good?

Well sure, pretty much everybody loves Motorhead - Lemmy is justâŚLemmy! Nuff said!
Rammstein, Ozzy, sure, and Ac/Dc, the Scorpions and Judas Priest when weâre in the mood for simply rockinâ out and being silly, and so many moreâŚa lot of what has been called âHeavy Metalâ in this thread, we have filed under various listings on our drives, since we are, frankly, total snobs. We love a lot of their music, but classify those a lot of bands under other headings.
Oh, and recently, we have been on an Alice Cooper kick - heck we even got way neato shotglasses and shoes in his honor. What a showman, such style and versatility (he certainly did not wear leather or spandex all the time - one of his best live videos shows him wearing formal white tails and a well-deployed swagger-stick!), And he was great on the Muppet Show too, gleefully singing about school arson, back in the day!
We like some of the Black Metal too, but I definitely get sick of the cookie-monster vocals so prevalent in that genre.
Note: Qntal isnât âmetalâ at allâŚmore like renaissance/classical with a bit of electronic subtly added in for extra rockinâ, Very worth checking out, and I imagine very much to the taste of even the more musically-conservative around there parts!

Iâm of the opinion that the âBlack Albumâ was probably their last good album. Then again I have friends that hated âAnd Justice for All.â
As for the new album, Iâd suggest giving it a listen. Itâs a thousand times better than âSt. Anger.â Lars also got rid of the tinny sounding snare drum and went back to a more traditional sound. Certainly itâs no âKill 'em Allâ or âMaster of Puppetsâ but considering what has recently preceded it itâs pretty good.
On a related note I was listening to a podcast with Scott Ian of Anthrax and if heâs to be believed they should have a new album out this spring with a new singer (Dan Nelson).

Yay! Other heavy metal fans!! I love concerts (Gonna see Bullet for my Valentine this summer! Just saw A7X on saturday). Some of my favorites: B4mV, All that Remains, and War of Ages.
OH, saw Motley Crue in concert⌠horrible. Had blacked out faces of Madonna and Child, and upside down crosses⌠on the first song they played!! Fiance and I left that concert in a hurry (didnât go for Motley Crue⌠haha went for Papa Roach!).

Any Theocracy fans here? I just picked up their new album âMirror of Soulsâ and it is a power metal masterpiece! This guy writes the kind of music that I would want to if I had any musical talent. Itâs Christian, but itâs done well. If youâre into power metal at all (and even if youâre not 
), I highly recommend it.

I agree with Joe, welcome to CAF!
Thereâve actually been a lot of cross over between rap and metal (no I donât mean Limp Bizkit, either). Start off with early Beastie Boys (Licensed to Ill) then try the song âBring the Noiseâ by Public Enemy/Anthrax.

Hahahaha the Beastie Boys⌠nice.
i like their âfight for a rightâ song, and âno sleepy till brooklynâ. heh, that âgirlsâ song is catchy.
Linkin Park is also kind of a cross thatâs newer. Heard of Hollywood Undead? Theyâre really new (although not very cleanâŚ). Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Beck are also kinda rock/rap music⌠but yeah, iâm not too fond of them. I like harder stuff.

Did you know Kerry King from Slayer is the guitar player at the end of the âNo Sleep till Brooklynâ video? If I remember correctly I think the Beastie Boys actually started off as a punk band and over time refined their sound until they turned into a rap group. They were/are friends with the guys from Anthrax.
I heard Scott Ian on Eddie Trunkâs radio show and he mentioned in the L.A. area there is a re-emerging thrash scene with 18 and 20 year old guys doing old school thrash, wearing jams shorts, black t-shirts and jeans and high top sneakers. You canât kill metal \m/

Have you listened to All that Remains and War of Ages? Those are possible my two favorites. War of Ages is ChristianâŚfiance found our about them at a concert in Seattle for Soilwork (another fav). I guess all the bands were satanic and saying bad stuff about christiany. War of Ages gets up there afterwards and even though they were being flipped off and âbooâdâ they still talked about how God brought them to where they are in life and they they dedicate their lives to Him. Fiance immediately buys two Cds (gets them signed) and a sweatshirt. Hahaha. (For the record, Soilwork wasnât anti-Christian⌠two other band that were non-headliners)

I have only heard of these bands mentioned here on this thread, I believe, but I havenât heard anything by them. To be honest I havenât really followed much in the way of Christian music for a while. The good bands I liked seemed to break up with too much regularity to follow them for any length of time. The only band still around that I listen to is Tourniquet (if you havenât heard them check them out, their drummer is one of the best and could make it in the mainstream world without any trouble). I should check them out, so thanks for the recommendation.

I donât look at music as âchristianâ or ânonchristianâ really. if i like the music i hear, then iâll listen to them. its a plus if we have the same religious views though.

Yes, check out War of Ages. âThe Awakeningâ and âSleep of Prisonersâ are both good songs. They have a bunch of songs on pure volume. (And if you have a purevolume account you should add me as a friend!)
