I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the right section or where else it would go.

But about two months ago I visited Rome and Barcelona. I got to see St Peter’s Basilica (among many other churches in Rome), and also got to see the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

The Sagrada Familia is amazing, particularly since it’s both so beautiful and so modern. It’s not even completed yet!

I’m wondering if there are any other beautiful Churches being built today? I’m sure none are as creative as Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, but are there any other large projects of such incredible beauty being done anywhere else today?

The Serbian Orthodox Church recently consecrated a new Church in Montenegro that took 20 years to build. It’s quite beautiful too. orthodoxartsjournal.org/a-new-cathedral-for-montenegro-thoughts-on-the-architecture/

We are told that we can’t build beautiful Churches anymore because they’re too expensive. It seems the people in Montenegro weren’t given that memo.

Well, not on the grand scale, but the newish parish church of St. Patrick’s in Redfield, Bristol, UK is internally quite a stunner.

Google and you can find illustrations.

Depends on what you mean by “new”

Saint James in Vancouver, Washington was just officially re-designated a “proto-Cathedral”. A lot of history there and quite a beautiful building out and in.

The building of beautiful churches seemed to have disappeared for many years along with the Latin mass. Churches used to be built around the tabernacle yet many newer ones (including my original home parish’s new late 90s church which is otherwise quite nice) don’t even have the tabernacle directly behind the altar where it’s always been. I would say the churches built in my diocese since the 90s are a lot nicer than the ones built in the 30 years prior. My current parish church was built in 2002 and is a very beautiful church. One might think it older than it is.

I find the Crystal/Christ Cathedral to be beautiful, but perhaps for different reasons. It furthers the visibility of the Church in Southern California, is a positive boost for the faith, and just may call to a few of Robert Schuller’s former congregation to Christian unity.

My diocese was established in the 1960’s and for 30+ years most of the churches were built in a bland modern style. Some priests have tried to fix the problem by adding statues and icons but sometimes the end result is a bit strange. God bless them for trying though!
In the last decade all the churches in the diocese have been built in a more traditional style.
St. Margaret Mary Parish was dedicated in 2011.

That’s a beautiful church! 👍

Look up the architect Duncan Stroik and you’ll see some beautiful, traditional restoration jobs as well as new plans for a cathedral.

This church was dedicated in 2010. It’s modern but has beautiful statues, stained glass windows and floor medallions and other iconography. I’m kind of a fan of floor medallions. Whether you look up, down, or to the side I like a church that has something everywhere I look to bring my focus back to God. The floor shouldn’t be ignored.

I sometimes go to a beautiful church of Darwin nearby. Here we learn more about evolution and satanism.

That is a stunning church that combines tradition with modern architecture. It looks like a French gothic cathedral in ways.

I think I’ve been there I’d forgotten that it was a newer church.

Although I appreciate all of the (name removed by moderator)ut here, but I must say that the Eastern Orthodox are kicking our butts in this department right now. We’re doing some decent looking Churches-- far better than what was done in the “Spirit of Vatican II” (aka the “Spirit of John Calvin’s Iconophobia”)-- but we’re still far behind where we used to be. The East Orth are building really beautiful Churches, so it can’t be blamed upon our time period or finances. If the Eastern Orth in Montenegro can do it, we can do it too. (Btw, I would consider after the fall of the USSR to be “new,” since i mean anything built in the past generation or so.)

Duncan Stroik, and a few others like him, are definitely pushing in the right direction. I hope he and others get the support they need.
