Feeling fairly certain I’m called to the priesthood in some capacity. Currently leaning towards the diocesan priesthood but also discerning the Jesuits as well.

Yes, as the previous poster alluded, my other thing is knowing how to tell those close to me about my decision. Will have to do it but part of me is dreading it. Any tips?
Have you spoken to a discerning priest or vocations director about it? (there are priests who specialise in vocations) It would be invaluable to get some (name removed by moderator)ut from someone experienced.

I knew a priest, Fr Eldred Leslie, who in his mid-40s entered a special late-vocation seminary at Rome (forget its name). The MD of the company he had worked for for 20 years announced to the staff: “You’ll never guess - Eldred’s going off to become a priest, ho! ho!” No-one else laughed.

Thanks Justin. That is next on my “to do” list. I am not so worried about what colleagues or others may think (well not really but when I do reveal it it will be a shock) The big thing will be revealing it to close friends and relatives. As you said, however, vocations directors, priests and seminarians (who are available to answer questions on open days) can provide invaluable advice and the best ways to do this. The few people I have told have all been positive and the signs I seem to get from prayer (and other events in my life) point me in the direction of a vocation.

Good Evening-

I haven’t posted here in a long time, too long I think :tsktsk: But anyways alot has happened in the last couple of months. I lost my jobin December:hypno: Well anyways tomorrow I meet with a Spiritual director and in May the community I’m thinking about joining is having a day for people who are thinking about joining. It’s called Maryknoll Days :clapping:

I’m not very active on this site, preferring Phatmass instead, but I am discerning a vocation to the religious life as a Sister – specifically with the order of the Religious Sisters of Mercy in Alma, MI. I’ve been discerning off and on for almost 4 years (since Dec. 2007). I applied to the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus in 2009 but ended up withdrawing my application and beginning the hunt again. I am signed up to visit the RSMs in November on retreat in Alma. I can’t wait! 🙂
I’m no longer discerning religious life. God is leading me down a different path which appears to be the vocation of married life. It was difficult giving up discernment at first, but I’ve made my peace with God and I’m looking forward to the future with hope and happiness! 👍

Yes I am discerning whether or not to enter into priesthood but am worried about paying for it since I am currently in college and will have a sizable amount on student loans as it is. :D:signofcross:

Yes. I am decerning a religious life to become a Dominican Sister. I have a lot of things I need to get out of the way first! Like paying down all these student loans that I have and finishing RCIA.God willing I can only hope this will happen. I’m trying to not get my hopes up too high since I’m still early in the decernment process. But, I think this is something that has been coming at me a long time. My entire life I have wanted to be apart of a religion where I could give myself ENTIRELY in all ways. We’ll see where I am in two years. 🙂
