Account value at start of day. For example if portfolio was worth $ 100 at the start of day, it was worth $ 180 at the end of day.

I don’t do many options. For me, it is more difficult to do options. I am using cheap brokers right now because I am just getting back into it. Their trading windows are kind of playschool. Hard to determine weight of options in real time as you are trading. I am also not familiar with a lot of new codes and acronyms. I am just trading to get loosened up for now as I am learning how things work today.

So you are trading stocks directly? I assuming predominantly shorting do far?

I am not sure what “directly” means. I basically just buy and sell with market or various limit orders.

I meant, by directly, just that you are buying common stocks, not derivatives, such as options.

So no short selling, and no options, and you made a 80% profit in one day this week? You must be a genius AND be leveraged to the hilt!!!

Code:
Definitely not a genius. In fact , I am lesser educated which has caused me to try to use only common sense. I just do what works for me. Not leveraged at all. Just try to keep track of settled/unsettled funds. I am still not even used to the trading windows with many new codes/acronyms. This was not easy for me, it took a tremendous amount of research, studying, practicing, etc.
Market seems basically the same except that there are more billionaires and the stock market seems to be over 75% institutionally owned now, rather than 55% 20 years ago.

I have no idea. I dont understand how it works and I am just trading live now with only simple market and limit orders. I dont want the algos to be able to weigh me in.

To be honest I have never traded the VIX either but I can see why it’s popular among day traders.

This market is evil. I am taking a break. For the first time ever I lost money 2 days in a row.
Very tough construct for day traders. I can no longer decipher the evolving MM(marker maker) codes. It is currently impossible for any human to know what the actual trade sizes are in real time.

Yes, it’s like taking a punch in the gut every time I look. I’m just hanging tight and will ride it out.

I made about $2,500 putting some money in VIXY last night right before market close and selling this morning right after open. I knew the market would be down today thanks to the pandemic declaration. Wish I would have done this a week ago, and also that I had put more in.

I’m still in the hole though, but I’m clawing back to even little by little. I lost $10,000 when the virus hit before I pulled out. I’ve been dabbling in options and have made a little and lost a little so far. I have a couple of plays coming up that could be quite lucrative but I’m probably going to wait until next week. After the abysmal day today I expect there to be a bump tomorrow followed by more of the bloodbath next week.

Are you executing your own trades ? Your trading window should allow you to see where the market is at after hours and premarket.
Some tv programs(skawkbox?) even post the market “implied” open at different points in time a few hours before the open.
This morning at around 6am(i dont remember exactly) the dow was down around 1200.
It is currently still down approx 2000 at 6:05 EST.

Good job on VIXY !

Thanks! I trade myself on TD Ameritrade and they do show and update pre and post market trading, though you can only trade certain ETFs at these times I believe (I haven’t messed with it myself). I get real time stock prices, though you have to qualify to get access to that. I don’t even know what the requirements are but I don’t think they’re too stringent.

There are ways to make good money even in this current market and I’m just learning myself. I’m taking some risks but nothing too large. My ultimate goal was to make some modest gains for the long term but with the virus wiping out my gains I’m just trying to get back to even now.

You have been turning a profit during one if the worst weeks ever. Have you been shorting individual sticks or buying puts?

Did the Pope condemn the trading of options when he warned about derivatives being a ticking bomb? Or was he just referring to certain types of derivatives (I think it’s something to do with credit swapping done by big institutions)?

I am not sure which instruments of credit that he was warning about , but options probably could be considered credit default swaps. I dont know. Looks like he was right !
I try not to use options in this market because I still cant tell how the market works while considering algos and AI trading. I know that the algos can weigh my options as soon as I enter them. That’s why I trade live(just buy or sell in real time) so they cannot manipulate pricing in my case. They do not know what my entry or exit points will be. If you are able to see trades that are pending and market maker codes, watch closely and you will notice that some orders are fake and disappear to manipulate pricing. This is illegal(a form of collusion between MM’s) but not much you can do about it. It may be impossible to prove. Very evil market.
