Any stories of meeting a Pope or a future Saint?

I am originally from Rochester, Minnesota, the home of the Mayo Clinic. When I was about 7 (this would be the mid-1970s), Mother Teresa was in town to have a pacemaker put in. Our parish is very close to to downtown, and during her stay Mother Teresa attended Mass at our church. Our priest at that time was a friend of hers and they had a long history of work together. So one Sunday we go to church, and we’re sitting in the pew just as normal, and out of nowhere here comes Mother Teresa into the church, and she sits down right near us. I got to shake her hand during the sign of peace, and I remember briefly meeting her and her patting me on the head after Mass was over.

I shudder to think of how awkward I would be if I met someone like that.

I’d love to be able to have a conversation with Pope Benedict and express my admiration for him, but in real life I don’t think I’d be able to be speak coherently :o

I myself have not, but my priest has some very personal stories about his family.

Back in the 20’s, his great grandmother and grandfather immigrated from Italy to Duluth Minnesota. At first his great Grandfather came over to work as a lumberjack while his family was back in italy. After earning enough money he sent for his wife, who was by now in her last months of pregnancy to come to America. Since the journey was to be a tough one, his great grandmother went to a priest to ask him to pray for her, her husband and her child. This priest not only prayed for them, but told her that she would make the journey and that her child would survive.

Meanwhile in Minnesota, his great grandfather had a dream about having a baby girl, and within a few months they were reunited in Duluth. Anyway, the priest that my priest’s great grandma visited was St. Padre Pio!

I also am sure that my great grandma, who worked as a cook at Boys Town since she was in her early 20’s met Father Edward Flanagan, who founded Boys Town and who’s cause for Sainthood has been put forward by the Omaha Archdiocese. I don’t know if she did, but I assume she would have. Granted my great grandma was Lutheran and probably just thought he was a nice man. Still, its kind of cool

Weeeelllllll, does a “possible” future saint apply? I’ve met a priest who, if he doesn’t become a saint, he should be. He’s the holiest person I’ve met yet. 😉
I was going to ask the same question, because I think I’ve met quite a few saints. 🙂

Sure, why not? 🙂

But it has to be someone you really think could be a Saint, not just someone you like, we have to have standards here! 😉
