Anyone else dealing with election fallout?

Considering that Staten Island was the only part of the City where Trump won, the Verrazano may indeed need protection from angry Brooklynites trying to send SI drifting into the sea. 😉 I grew up in SI, and I’m proud that my hometown still isn’t afraid to disagree with the rest of NYC.

Side note: Trump actually won 73% of New York’s counties, but BBMQ, Nassau and Westchester account for well more than half of the state’s population (Trump won Suffolk as well).
 
Nobody has unfriended me, at least the last time I checked, but several friends have abandoned or disabled their Facebook account due to their hurt feelings. A lot of the remaining liberal friends are spewing so much hatred, bigotry and defending those calling for violence that I haven’t been on more than a few minutes since Monday night.

More troubling is how it’s impacted some more real relationships. One family member didn’t show up to a planned family function this evening and isn’t responding to calls, emails, texts, etc. She was extremely nasty and hateful over the past year whenever politics came up (she was always the one bringing it up, usually at awkward, completely unrelated times) and positive that Hilary would win. I have a niece who won a major scholarship yesterday. Her parents were both pretty vocal about the election. None of the liberals on either side of the family will congratulate her either online or in real life, and a couple have unfriended her parents.

Most of the liberals I know were up in arms when Trump said he wouldn’t accept the results if Hilary won and vowed that they’d accept whatever happened. I’m not surprised they’re behaving otherwise, but some of their behavior is disgusting. I suspect that if I was paying more attention to Facebook, there are several friendships that wouldn’t survive.
 
I told my sister to chill out when she was telling all of facebook that she was worried that her children were now at risk because they are one quarter Panamanian. She got mad at me for not supporting her in her hour of mourning (her words) but she didn’t unfriend me either on facebook or real life.

From friends I’ve talked to, I believe there was a lot of communications being sent to minority communities that wasn’t being picked up on by either the mainstream or conservative press. I’ve heard from several people who either were told themselves or have friends of various ethnicities who were told that a Trump win would mean mass deportations for a variety of groups. A couple of those people are now on shaky ground with their friends who feel betrayed by their votes, all over lies and misinformation.

I would probably just give it time, the media has ALOT to answer for I believe. It’s been Clinton’s campaign who has lied and manipulated and divided people, so firstly, thank God she didn’t win, and secondly, given time hopefully more and more people will come to see just how crooked Hillary’s campaign was and how manipulated they have been by it.

Hopefully when Trump & Pence are in they can counter all the propaganda that was spread against them.

I also hope Trump appoints a special investigator to look into her case, so that their corruption can be laid out for all to see.

The eye has to be on the bigger prize…Heaven. I disabled my FB (never posted to it except for tax tips) because when I glimpsed the time wasted and the gossip and the arguments, I gave up! I just told people if it needs to be said to me, I’m in the phone book.
 
It was a similar situation with Brexit in the UK. A wise person told me that life would be very boring if we only kept friendships with people who think the same way as us and I think it’s a real shame when this sort of thing happens. I would keep reaching out in case this person realizes this.
 
Well, we are a mixed minority family. My husband is an immigrant from Mexico. We have several friends who are immigrants, many are undocumented workers, mostly from Mexico. None of us (family or friends) are the slightest bit worried about President-elect Trump or what he might or might not do. Several people I know voted for him. Others voted against him. Most of those voted third party. Most people I know, however, bypassed this election and chose not to vote at all or left the section for president blank. I’m just glad that here there are no protests or craziness going on. It’s simply life as usual. No mass panic or hatefulness. I’m sorry so many others are not that fortunate. We should all continue praying for our nation and all citizens. We have had far too many people who have sacrificed so much for us to each be entitled to our own beliefs and opinions and political views. There is no reason for anyone to be so bothered with election results.
 
I’m in the UK, but I have friends and family in the States. My Hispanic friends have been getting harassed, bricks thrown through windows, “Trump” painted on their houses etc.

Granted, I came from a very racially divided town, but it makes me sick. The U.K. isn’t a hotbed of tolerance, we had a massive increase in racial attacks after Brexit.

I think the fallout depends on where you are. Areas where this was a problem are just getting worse. I have friends that are terrified, and acting like it isn’t happening or that all people are faking it is not charitable. Obviously, as a white female, I’m not going to see it, but I know it is there.
 
I have to admit that I started crying when I heard that Donald Trump won. I think I was very disappointed that the first woman who ran for president didn’t win.

I would like to share my thought process when I voted. I imagined that I was the owner of a very old house, kind of like the houses on “This Old House.” Then, I imagined that the plumbing was all worn out, and the house needed to be re-plumbed. I further imagined that two candidates applied for my re-plumbing job:

The first candidate said he was pro-life, but he had never done any plumbing in his entire life. I had a lot of trouble believing anything he said, since he used to be pro-choice.

The second candidate was pro-choice, but had 30 or 40 years of plumbing experience. Who would I hire?

Well, naturally, if I really did own a house like that, I would have to hire the experienced person!

I remember that during the presidential election four years ago, Catholic Answers was explaining the five non-negotiable items. As an example, they asked, “if Adolf Hitler was running, would you vote for him?” That would be the same as voting for someone who believes in killing unborn babies.

Well, I hate to say it, but Donald Trump has been compared to Hitler many times, and my conscience just wouldn’t let me take a chance on him.

The fact remains that presidents don’t have abortions (unless the president is young and female). Women are the ones who have abortions, and they make their own choices. There were more abortions under Bush than there were under Obama, so why would I think that there would be fewer abortions if Donald Trump was president? It is also true that if all of the women in the United States decided not to have abortions, the abortion rate would be exactly zero!

I remember when Bill Clinton was president. He said that he thought abortions should be safe, legal, and rare. Back then, I don’t even remember that there was much about gay marriage or sex change operations. I saw Hillary as less liberal than Obama, and I was hoping that she would ask her husband for advice if she didn’t know what to do.

I think that Bill Clinton was one of our best presidents, even if he was a horrible womanizer!

I have stopped crying, and now I hope that they will at least give Donald Trump a chance. We can always impeach him if he really turns out to be like Hitler! And I sincerely hope that 40 million people don’t lose their medical insurance, especially mothers who decided not to choose abortion and gave birth to severely handicapped babies!
 
Today is my birthday and neither of my half siblings has said anything. Usually they’d wish me well on Facebook and my sister would call.

I am thinking you did not study logic in school …

And you do realize that Bill Clinton twice vetoed a Ban on Partial Birth Abortion … the procedure where a baby is delivered feet first up to the point of its neck and then a needle is inserted into its skull and its brains sucked out - That heinous procedure - and Bill Clinton twice vetoed the law that would prevent it from occurring …

That is who you believe is one of our best presidents? :confused:

But someone compares Trump to Hitler with no basis for doing so [HINT - they usually inform students that if you have to resort to comparing someone to Hitler you have already lost the argument] and your conscience was impacted …🤷 and people wonder why our country does not function well :rolleyes:

And to be fully honest, Hilary isn’t pro-choice: She’s rabidly pro-abortion. She said she wanted to force Catholics to abandon their pro-life views and force everyone to pay for unlimited abortions up to the moment of birth. If one really wants to make the Hitler comparison, I don’t think Trump’s the one who’s earned it.
 
Presidents don’t have abortions, but they were fetuses once. So were you and I.

To say they ought to be less quick to speak on abortion, since they never would need to consider an abortion for themselves, is like saying a person ought not to speak against slavery, if they’ve never been a slave-owner.

The one with little experience in a heartbeat, a good person, who knows little, can learn much, an evil person, who thinks they know everything, can’t learn anything, let alone repentance for their wicked ways.

You can’t fill a cup which is already full, and to believe her cup was full and be as adamantly pro-abortion as she was and manipulative, deceptive and divisive.

Not true at all, the irony is that Clinton shared more the attributes of Hitler given the ideology she has, which doesn’t necessarily put Jews in the firing line, but people like myself in the firing line because of my views on marriage and the family and abortion and euthanasia etc.

This I believe becomes more clear when you see their revolutionary tactics toward the Catholic Church, which the Communist tried to do and nearly all the tyrants in history I have heard of all tried to do to the Church.
