much better this time around… the consciously loud voices were not there… just the occasional natural slip from force of habit.
In our parish, the new translations seem to be going well. We hear the occasional, “And also… with your spirit” followed by a head smack and a “Arrgh!”![]()
This is troubling, especially the “clapping and hooting.” Whatever their motives, I hope this doesn’t happen again. I will pray about this and hope it does taper off…very quickly.I had not attended mass at the OF parish since the new translation until this past Sunday. I go to a Latin parish most of the time out of preference but the other by necessity… (And Monseigneur Kavanaugh (sp) is one of my favorite priests)
I went to the OF parish with great expectations. I was looking forward to mass with the new translation. I had been hearing nothing but good things about it via the radio program here.
What I got was… rebellion…? My daughter and I were following the mass and when it got to any of the changed translations… most notably “…And with your Spirit.” , there was a very vocal group that said instead, “…and also with you.”
The first time or two, I thought… okay, they are not into the swing of things yet… but then as the mass continued, they would do this louder each time (including with the newly translated creed), trying to drown out the rest of us.
What the heck gives?
The largest shock, though, was at the end of mass, after Fr had already gone outside and we were streaming out… these folks that were scattered throughout the church started clapping and hooting…
Seriously… Wha?? I’m almost inclined to seek another Parish but I’m kind of stuck because of scheduling… I do hope this tapers off over time. What do the folks doing this think that they are accomplishing?
We have an overhead at our parish anyway…we have a sloped ceiling so it doesn’t overshadow anything. The new translations were up there for awhile and did really help…now that we mostly have it down…they are gone. Although once in awhile people slip up.My church installed an overhead just for this… and it doesn’t help. People are still stumbling and messing up (mainly because we had NO prep before hand. Just BAM!~ There you go, new translation, do eeeet!)
