I understand the feeling. I was well into adulthood before I could see it as something more than guilt, shame, doing what I HAD to do but to some degree feeling like I was going through the motions because God was basically a judging tyrant. What made all the difference was having a caring, compassionate spiritual director who could help me see that my relationship with God is based on love. He WANTS me to be free of these sinful burdens. He wants me to relate to him inn love. I look at things on a whole different way now.Mama, on the other hand, is all “deer in the headlights” when I tell her we have to go to Confession.
