Anyone ever get feelings that they missed a Hail Mary or two while praying the rosary?

It’s such an annoying feeling. I dont know if the devil is trying to play a trick on me But ironically enough this cant be the case since the devil and his angels flee from the sound of prayer.

But perhaps its immersing yourself too much in meditation? I dont like to think im rushing through it because I go at my own and take my time but it’s an odd feeling because I dont know if I actually missed any even though in fingering through each bead. I’d hate to think that the rosary is not as “complete” because I missed one or two.

Can anyone relate? Have their been saints that have talked about this?

It can happen to the best among us, don’t worry about it so much, relax and enjoy your prayer time. But yes it happens to me.

I fall asleep sometimes after a few decades but

My Guardian Angel finishes it. It’s what is in your heart that matters.

I often had the feeling that I was miscounting. I eventually found out why (after months)… the rosary beads I was using had been made with only 9 beads on the fourth decade 🙂

There was a time when I used to smugly make fun of people to myself during communal rosaries – So many seemed incapable to count to 10!

Then I realized that the beautiful rosary that my bride had lately given to me was missing an ave in the third mystery. I had 4 decades and one nonet! Oops!
😳

Jinx!

It (to my knowledge) has never happened to me on the Rosary… But on the Holy face Chaplet… yes 😦 As you go through the Lord’s five senses ( in order touch, hearing, sight, smell, taste) … I get to the end and am on the sense of smell … ok, missed one somewhere …

Constantly.
Sometimes I miscount my beads.

Of course, that isn’t quite as bad as when I lose track of where in a given prayer I am, and end up with a decade of only the second half of the Hail Mary.

I have to use an app on my phone. Otherwise, I can’t do it right. If I fall asleep I can pick up later and finish, too. I don’t worry about perfection in prayer. The goal, simply, is to take time to pray.

Oh so many times. I might pray an extra Hail Mary just to be sure.

I used to get annoyed at myself, that I had missed advancing my fingers onto the next bead. This happened over and over while praying with a group; I had one more bead, and the leader of the next decade already moved on, to the next decade.

Then I had a thought to count the number of beads. Sure enough, the second (or fourth) decade had eleven beads, not ten!

I went all that time, thinking I had missed a bead, but it was all good. I offer up all those eleventh Hail Marys for the soul of dear Sister Margaret, who gave me the rosary beads. 😇

Better to say eleven hail Mary’s than say nine.

If your not sure if you moved to the next bead or not, assume you haven’t and keep your finger on that one again for the next Hail Mary

Me too, which means we have both probably skipped a decade and not realized it.

There should be an app to match up those with supernumerary beads to those of us with deficits. 😃

Either I or my wife sometimes misses the count. Not infrequently I start a “Glory Be” and she corrects me, starting another Hail Mary. Sometimes I forge ahead with a Hail Mary and she corrects me to a Glory Be.

I think she’s the one who’s right.

Sometimes I get sleepy and my mind changes the words as I drift off.

Since I so often drift off as I pray the Rosary (long story), I usually end up offering 7 or 8 decades. I don’t think the Lord is offended.

I have one Rosary that has 11 beads in the 4th decade. So, concerns about any missed “Hail, Mary” prayers are gone!
