I still think I’m too young to get married, but I find it increasingly alarming that many people I know are getting married. :yukonjoe:
 
I had hopes in a fiance that stayed at that for years… at 41… if there is still a chance out there he probably wouldn’t be a high school sweetheart but hopefully he’d be a musician. The jam sessions would be great. 🙂
 
Maybe I have missed the boat or maybe I am going crazy - can this possibly be:

I tried to play life safe by taking extra caution in my selection of a mate. Being a product of a divorced family, I did not want to make the same mistakes my parents made. Instead, I sought after my grandparents loving relationship and marraige of 62 years.

I watched many of my girlfriends get married in their mid 20’s. Personally, I shook my head because I thought they placed more emphasis on the ring and wedding dress then they did on the men they were chosing to marry or the marraige. All of them on a race against the clock to get married before the DOOM age of 30. Unfortunately, I have also watched 90% of them get divorced. Thing is, they walked away with half and still couldn’t stand on their own, now in second marraiges or new relationships just for the sake of being with a man. I also watched my male friends either experience this or witness this. So my male friends are afraid of financial ruin if they make the same mistakes, even if their parents were happily married, they sit back and try to play their lives safe now, so they get married later in life - hence they spend more time ‘experimenting and having fun with’ many women in the process…until, however, they are ready to settle down…and low and behold, they start looking for the women in their mid 20s and process hence repeats! If anyone has witnessed this pattern, please let me know its not just my imagination…

I realize the problem with everyone trying to protect themselves…it breeds a ME generation rather than a WE generation. Everyone doing this misses out on the fruits of comitment and the love that it brings resulting with a bunch of single people who have no clue on how to go about being in loving committed relationships.

So my question often is did I get it wrong when everyone else had it right?
 
might i be added to this list? i know im young (M 20) but i just feel as if ill never meet the one im supposed to.

Yes. Those years are often referred to as “the best years” in common parlance. It doesn’t feel great when you stand by as they go with the wind. I will never be 18 or 21 or 24 again.

Sigh. I’ve been getting a better response from women than ever and it’s been rather surprising. At the same time, I cannot imagine myself ever after with any woman I know. In most cases, it’s a concrete reason, in just some it’s an, “ain’t gonna happen,” but all in all, negative to everyone I know. I have a hard time believing that maybe I’ll meet someone at some point and my years aren’t running backward. At this point my friends have been noticing this too, as if it were only a decision on my part to find a wife. On the other hand, I’ve just lost a job, I’m a little before the midway of a degree course and so it can’t be said I’m ready right at this moment, anyway. Just feels sad to miss out on this. What I’m worrying about is maybe that it might actually be something with me.

I am looking for a good woman who is not acholic but will drink whisky with me all night and tell the bouhys and me how good our bagpipe playing is at the end of the nite, some who takes thier Irish politics very serious , someone who will ride in the back seat so my dog can ride upfront to look out the windshield, someone who likes to spend the day at the rifle range and shoots almost as good but not better than me and the guys, maybe I am not being selective enough?😃 😃 😃 Maybe Iwill just stay single.
 
But shouldn’t she break a Guinness on your head for suggesting your dog is more important than she is, her being the type to booze and shoot like there’s no tomorrow? 😛
