Anyone feel like they won't ever get married?

Maybe we should all attend the Catholic’s singles conference in San Diego or Chicago. I know of 2 couples who met spouses there. If nothing else it would be a great place to meet other single catholics for fellowship. Just an idea. 🤷

I feel exactly the same way. 🤷
Yeah I know the feeling. I am 27, too. Try having a married identical twin with 2 kids already discussing their 3rd. 😦 Oh and a *little sister *married with a daughter already. My twin once said to me, “I could never have guessed how different our 20’s would be.” Sigh.

Last night, I was awake half the night fearful of my future, wondering if I would ever marry or if it would be a happy marriage or if something was “wrong” with me or…etc, etc etc. I try so hard to stay faithful and positive but those nights happen…can’t stand night like that!

Anyway, I truly do believe God has good things in store. It’s just hard to know why it unfolds sooner for some and later for others. Some have said “encouraging” things to me like, “Well maybe you’re just not ready yet for marriage.” We-ell… lol, my twin wasn’t any more “ready” 5 years ago than I am today! Trust me, our maturity levels aren’t that off-kilter, lol. I just don’t think life is that clear cut … but God’s ways are bigger than ours. 🙂

Why don’t you have a Catholic Singles Conference at your own parish?

LOL…I think i am on my 3 or 4th cycle of friends getting married and having babies so i go find new single friends who get married and have babies. I am actually in two weddings this month and my sister is getting married in Feb. I will be the last female daughter in the family and last grand daughter to get married. I guess god has got to have a plan for me.

Right now i now i now i am not suppose to be a nun. I feel that marriage is my vocation BUT there are no guarantees that that will happen. Right now i know that i love childern and am suppose to help protect them. I just started law school and figure maybe even if i stay single for the rest of my life that God can use me to protect the childern out there in the world. Who knows. ts in his hands. I just have to follow.

Its depressing to think i will not have someone to come home to and decompress the day with or that i will forever be the one the “social butterfly” that all my married friends think i am (its fun how your married firends think the single life is so great but us singles don’t care for the life very much.hmmm go figure. Guess its the grass is alway greener on the other side mentality) But i will trust that God does not toy with my feelings and that he will sort them out for me and guide me on my path.

I belong to a Catholic dating site…Ave Maria Singles…I do recommend the site, but even if you’re not interested in the online option, I recommend the owner’s blogs…6stonejars.com/

He has some very pertinent, interesting, and encouraging blogs about finding a mate and getting married. He addresses some of what you mentioned.

check it out!

Thanks Lisa, I too am a member of AMS (long-time member). It’s a great website. I have also read the blog - I agree he shares some very interesting thoughts on the married vocation!

Haha, yes the grass always seems greener right? And after 5 years of additional singleness, yep, I have become the “social twin.” 😉

It’s interesting you bring up knowing your vocation, but the possibility it may never happen. I too feel the married vocation is for me even though I admire religious life from afar. Just seems it’s the way God made me. That’s really neat you’re in law school, and finding a way to express motherly protection for children even in the single years. 🙂 I love being an aunt, especially when my 4-year-old nephew has endearing epiphanies like, “Auntie … you look a LOT like Mommy!!!” (You can see the light bulb going off over his head, haha). Or when we are in public and my niece or nephew cling to me for protection, or when my nephew asks me all sorts of questions about God. Admittedly, it fuels my own desire to be a mom that much more … but it is still a privilege to be an aunt/godmother.

In regards to occupation, I am a writer/editor for a Christian publication (actually manage the Marriage and Parenting sections groan lol). Once again, while it tends to fuel my desire, I thank God He has blessed me with such meaningful work. No matter the outcome, I try to trust that God will use our lives for good. 🙂 The “feelings” part is the hardest part … the sadness or turmoil that comes with not knowing…

Oh add me to the list please!!

(F, 27)

I keep looking around at all of my married friends, and wondering if there’s something wrong with me.

I’m sure that God has a plan in mind for me…I just wish He’d let me know what it is, lol. 😃
Amen to that!

Though I did receive some comfort in a rather odd place. I was reading the blog of a woman who married young and had four children, and she was miserable and hated her life. So I had to remind myself that I could be easily miserable being married.

Still doesn’t help all the time though.

I am praying for each of us by (screen)name as often as possible.

I am praying that God will make each of us ready for our future spouse (and them ready for us), lead us to each other, and to pour out grace upon us to give us strength and hope while we’re waiting. :heaven:

Thank you to all who are joining in prayer for these intentions. If I’ve missed anyone, or if anyone would like to be added to this list, please post here or send me a PM … same applies to anyone who is on the list and wants to be removed (I certainly don’t want to offend or make anyone uncomfortable!).

May Our Lord bless these intentions, and may the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Joseph intercede for us.

:signofcross:

fun note…

I was my sister’s wedding shower yesterday. I was talking to this old friend of the family and she asked me “if i was married”. I said “no”. She said “why not?” I then replied “i don’t know”. I then went on about it being hard while dating in school.

How do you answer people? I mean I don’t have a good reason except its not my time at the moment. 🤷

One of my responses, especially to people who I don’t know (or don’t know well) is ask them if they are married and if they say “yes” to say “why?” and if they say they aren’t, to then ask why they are not.

What happends next depends on their answer.

If I’m told not to be so personal, I say I also think its personal why I’m not married and change the subject.

I used to say sometimes “because I’ve never met a man who would add more to my life than he would take away.”

Unfortuntately often people don’t hear, or listen properly, and accuse me of thinking no man would add to my life. So I don’t use that much now.

That’s interesting that you ask them back… seems fair enough! If they cannot answer their own question, they shouldn’t be asking.

I am usually just honest in my answers. I say I hope I will be married someday, but I just haven’t found the right person yet. I might even joke about dating. I’ve tried “smart” answers but honestly I feel kind of mean when I do that. If they want to judge me for not being married, that’s their issue - all I can do is be genuine, be myself. I also find most people tend to ask questions like this out of real interest in my life and may not realize it’s hitting a sore spot. If they feel the need to give me advice, I usually just nod and thank them, even if I find the advice unhelpful. If it’s the right setting, I’ll ask them to pray for me and my future.

you must remember when someone who is married wants you to get married it is a case of misery loves company:eek:

Wow, this list is getting long. OK everyone, want to hear something sad?! I recently came in contact with people from High School…it has been 19 years…I am 37 now and officially am (along with 2 others, being divorced) the ONLY SINGLE woman left from my HS graduating class…THE ONLY SPINSTER…Nearly all of them are married with children. Some even on their 2nd marraiges… Is that humiliating and sad, or what?! So all I can say is all you 20’somethingers…get out there, get living and get loving…don’t become ME!!!

You know, it recently occurred to me that I’ve never really felt like I would get married. I always felt there was something horribly wrong with me, and that no one would ever love me. Not every day, but it’s a recurring feeling and fear of mine.

I used to think I would get married someday, but now I know it is unlikely because it’s hard to find a good redhead who is 1/4 sane.

Now that you say, I’d have a hard time imagining it happening to me, even if I forced myself. I can’t imagine a woman who’d like that, nor can I really imagine the woman I’d be happy with, given my experience and observations so far. This is not to say I don’t want it - the opposite is true, I would very much want it. I just can’t imagine it (which is not to say I don’t believe it can happen).

I sometimes just say, “I would very much like to, but it has not happened.” Sometimes I say the record holder put up with me for a year and four months. Sometimes I say I haven’t met the right person. Sometimes I stress the good sides of being single and the bad sides of a bad relationship.
