Anyone feel like they won't ever get married?

Well I guess one can assume that, but it wasn’t about being hostile, it’s just a question of what’s happening…who here honestly being active in prayer for the last 8 months has had much happening to them and is still working?

I haven’t kept tabs since I’m new, but I read quite a bit of this thread as it was intriguing. I can safely conclude, not only through this thread, but elsewhere too and other people’s experience that simply praying and putting out isn’t going to do anything. God isn’t going to help you get a science degree by you sitting around doing nothing, you aren’t going to have a child by sitting around doing nothing. Do the maths, it’s not being hostile or knowing someone else’s fate, but sitting around doing nothing is likely to lead to nothing 😉

I’ve said this before, but for your sake I will repeat it.

Let’s say that someone tries as hard as they can to find the right one for them. Does that guarantee they’ll FIND the right one? No.
The people you see on here are looking and not finding, or at the very least, not able to find.

Now, God knows when and where you will meet the one He has chosen for you. Its only right to take this time before He allows it to happem to pray for guidance and also for the one you will eventually marry.
So we here pray for each other, so that we all may be guided by God, and actually listen to His call. We pray that we aren’t seeking our own selfish ends, but instead we seek what God knows is best for us.

Prayer is not useless And you don’t seem to see the fact that people on here are trying. You also don’t see that some people on here are young and either have never had a relationship, or they have only seen doomed relationships.

You are assuming that no one is looking, but instead we are just praying to God so that He will just drop our future spouses out of the sky
That’s not true.
We are asking for His help. His guidance. Because just because you look, doesn’t mean you’ll find. Especially if its by yourself, and without guidance from God.
Aren’t we as Catholics called to pray for our needs?

You indeed seem to lack faith in the power of prayer, and the ability of God to intercede. Not to mention that you seem to hold more stock in human action by expecting guaranteed results from it.

I used to feel like I would never get married. I was raised in a very Catholic home with a large family and involved in a very Catholic youth group. There was all sorts of emphasis put on discerning your vocation in life. Thanks to the encouragement of the youth group and my parents, I discerned a vocation to marriage before I graduated fom highschool. T

hen I spent the next four years at Franciscan University - what better place to meet a good catholic man, right? But that wasn’t in God’s plans for me. After graduation I moved back home and got a job and still hadn’t found a good Catholic man to date, much less marry. I was always feeling like I must be doing something wrong, I mean, I knew I was called to marriage, so why couldn’t I meet someone and get married and start fufilling my vocation?

Then one day I heard a talk on vocations. I didn’t pay much attention at first, because I had already discerned my vocation, been there done that, right? But the speaker said something that caught my attention:

You may have discerned your vocation for some point in the future, but don’t let that stop you from fufilling your current vocation.

While waiting for God to introduce me to the right man, I was sort of on hold with the rest of my life and unhappy because I didn’t think I was where God wanted me. I realized that I needed to accept my temporary vocation of the single life until God decided it was time to move on.

It was a couple years after that talk, at the age of 25, that I met my future DH. It was a blind date, that I wasn’t even told about until 2 hours beforehand (He came to my brother’s rock concert specifically to meet me, but only because his excuse to get out of going fell through). We got married 2 weeks before my 26th birthday, and now we are expecting our first little one at Easter.

I’d encourage everyone to live their current vocation to the best of their ability and be happy with being where God wants you at this moment in your life. He may say it’s time to move on when you least expect it!

Hmm, it’s not so much the lack of faith in prayer, but rather the issue of sitting there praying and hoping something will materialize. We are meant to pray for our needs, but the Bible does say to not be anxious about needs doesn’t it? Something with the sparrows and the hair on our heads. This thread is full of anxious people.

Furthermore it says to seek and ye shall find, and ask and ye shall receive, I can see the asking bit, but I see no one seeking.

As someone asked you before…what gives you THAT idea? That no one is seeking? You are dead wrong about that. Just because we are praying, does NOT mean that we aren’t doing anything else…we have said this over and over.

Just because it happened to you doesn’t mean it will happen to everyone else. There are plenty of people who have been fulfilling their “current vocation” for longer than you’ve been on this earth and are still no where. Some can be found on this forum, some in their 40’s and are deeply upset.

GloriusMaximus: Why don’t you tell us about yourself?

Age? Male or female? Are you single or married? What is your envisioned vocation in life?

So far, you’ve spent a lot of time on this thread commenting on other people’s life situations, but we know very little about your own. (With only 11 posts from you, we have very little to work with.)

So how is everyone going about ‘seeking’? It can’t be all that difficult, there are 1.1 billion catholics

No, I think I’m quite right, and you know it. You want magic, that’s all.

Sure:

31, male, single. Envisioned vocation is marriage, but I’m not going to because of some issues. (I’m sure you all here can testify to that 😉 )
I didn’t mean to single out people, it was a generalization as a whole.

You are not quite right, I know that. No one here wants magic. READ THE THREAD!

This is ridiculous. I pray for my vocation, I am VERY visible in my church, I am online sites. I have dated several people very seriously in the last few years, but for a variety of mutual reasons, they didn’t happen. If I wasn’t out active, I would not have dated anyone.

You are dead wrong.

If it can’t be all that difficult, what about you then? Why haven’t you been active and messaged the few women here near your age…and I don’t mean berating them for praying about their vocation.

Before you make generalized assumptions and observations. Make sure you actually read the thread and observe the general mindset here.

You’re making assumptions based on the idea that you know exactly what we are all doing and why. Yet, you haven’t even read the entire thread. Not that I blame you for that. But coming in here with a hostile mindset isn’t going to gain you any points. Nor is it going to add merit to what you say.

In fact, your very words just make me want to ignore you completely. You are 100% wrong in your observations, and us repeating ourselves over and over again isn’t going to convince you that you are wrong.

And if there are 1.1 billion devout Catholics in this world, just shoot me right now.

However, you are still not understanding that just because you are Catholic, it doesn’t make you automatically compatible with another devout Catholic.
I know MANY young women who I COULD date if I wanted to, but they are not my type.
The people on here are’t expecting “magic” (Your use of that term is just raising the reading on my “Troll-o-meter”) but asking for God’s help.
As I said before, and you don’t seem to be grasping this. You could put all your money and all your time into finding “the one”, but it doesn’t mean you’ll find him/her quickly, or even at all.

Because He may have other plans.
But one should still pray!
Doesn’t the bible ALSO say that we should ask God for His help? Ask Him for His help! He will answer!
And again you are assuming that we aren’t seeking!
You also say that were are anxious. More like “eager” actually.
Though you can’t even recall the verse, so your point isn’t even valid since you may be taking it out of context.

Before you make generalized assumptions and observations. Make sure you actually read the thread and observe the general mindset here.
I did, hence why I made a generalization on the general mindset 🙂 The difference of opinion lies in the power of excessive prayer.
You’re making assumptions based on the idea that you know exactly what we are all doing and why.
This is true, I have made assumptions, but I wasn’t aware that making assumptions was not allowed
Yet, you haven’t even read the entire thread. Not that I blame you for that. But coming in here with a hostile mindset isn’t going to gain you any points. Nor is it going to add merit to what you say.
I never read the entired thread, I said that earlier, but I did read quite a bit of it. Hostile? I don’t think so.
In fact, your very words just make me want to ignore you completely. You are 100% wrong in your observations, and us repeating ourselves over and over again isn’t going to convince you that you are wrong.
That’s fine by me, I know you think I’m wrong, you don’t need to iterate that over and over again, instead of telling me how wrong I am repeatedly it’s best to tell me why I’m wrong, well you’ve done that in a mixture anyways. I’m not making you respond to me, I don’t see why you have to get so upset.
And if there are 1.1 billion devout Catholics in this world, just shoot me right now.
I agree, there isn’t, but everyone has different standards, and given that there is a very large Catholic population, it makes finding that “someone” a whole lot easier.
However, you are still not understanding that just because you are Catholic, it doesn’t make you automatically compatible with another devout Catholic.
I know MANY young women who I COULD date if I wanted to, but they are not my type.
Never did I say that. Rest assured, 1.1 billion Catholics will assure there are bound to be a large percentage of devout ones, it’s with any religion.

That is true, but it is a start. I’m sorry you feel like I’m trolling, so I won’t bother responding anymore, it’s probably derailing this thread anyways. So good luck to all of you, and I mean that.
Doesn’t the bible ALSO say that we should ask God for His help? Ask Him for His help! He will answer!
But not always the way you want him to, isn’t that right? So if you wanted to get married, and he doesn’t, he will answer alright, but not what you expect. Or he will make you wait, say 40 years for some people? I’m speaking in the third person here, these are the general observations given by people. It’s not that God is answering, these kinds of things happen to people in general, religious or not. Atheists meet their ‘special someone’ too you know? They can be 18, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50. Some of them go through the same struggles, same with muslims, hindus, protestants, some of them don’t pray, you don’t hear them saying “God answered my prayers”, especially the atheists. It just happens to them, so it’s no way an indicator that God has answered your prayers, if it happens to a lot of people

That’s not to say God hasn’t, or that he won’t. When you meet that special someone, feelings fly around, etc. You probably think it’s a divine calling, it’s not God, it’s just you.

I just love how you want to completely take God out of the equation. It is all oir own efforts, at least thats the vibe I’m getting from you. Last time I checked, we are supposed to “pray without ceasing” If I have my chiuce between the scriptures and you, I’ll take the scriptyes seven days a week, and twice on Sunday.

Also known as misusing scripture. Why not follow that advice and pray 24/7? For it says to pray “without” ceasing. For scripture also says God knows before you ask him what you need, and to not be anxious.

The point is never to give up. Tell me waht is your goal? If it is to uplift and edify, you are failing miserably. If it is to dicourage, you are on the right track

Does it have to be one or the other? I didn’t wake up one day and say to myself “I must go and find fellow Catholics to irritate, ya, that would be a good deed for the day”. Neither did I come to “uplift”, I’m not worried about that, taking a look at most of these threads in the forum, a few are uplifting, most are doom and gloom. Not that I’m accusing anyone, no one intends it, but that’s just how it is.

Anyways, good bye.

Good riddance, you illogical troll.

I could spend all day owning you in an argument, but then you’d just keep spewing your redundant points in a highly laughable manner.

You have no idea what kind of argument I am capable of making. Though I would welcome the challenge. However, its likely that the joy will be short-lived.

And here you are claiming to have beatific vision to know how God is and is not involved with people’s vocation. You sure are something…

You really have no idea who you are talking to. You think so low of the people here to actually preach to them that if they get involved in someone that feelings will take over and they will misunderstand that as God? Really? Do you REALLY think that low of everyone here? That is extremely patronizing and arrogant to think that way.
