Okay everyone.

It is 11:03 PM, the night before Ash Wednesday.

Smoke em if you’ve got em… 😃

Pray, pray, pray…that nicotine fits will go away

Yes, I’m smoking my last one as we speak.

May God grant me the strength and the will to beat this nasty habit.

Amen to that.
Now for a shower and a good teeth brushing and I am off to bed ready to start tomorrow.
Lord give us all strength. Without You nothing is possible.

My mother is giving up smoking for lent…or at least she claims she is.

Had my last cigarette before bed last night.

I’m not happy, I’m darned uncomfortable,
<<>>

Developed a nasty flu type bug Monday, stayed home
went to work Tuesday,
relapsed – 100 F fever – am staying home today
<<>>

At least, if I stay out of work thru the end of the week, I’ll be miserable from the flu, miserable from not smoking, and be able to confine my misery to my own bedroom rather than inflicting it on my office mates (tho I’m inflicting it now on fellow forum members).

God IS Good.

Perhaps by the time I’m ready to go back to work, the physical addiction will be over and it will be the habit alone to kick. . .

Am praying for y’all and trust that y’all are praying for me. . .

The guy that I work next to has chosen to quit today too. I sent him your posting. Good Luck all.

Hey, the day is here. Hope it finds you doing well. I quit! Lets keep praying and posting. We WILL make it!

Amen!

Been up since 4:30 am west-coast time - managed to get the kids up, drop off my husband at work, get to Mass, and saw the kids out - all without having one puff yet! So far, so good, and I’m keeping my eye on the Lord!

Let’s see how I do at work today…

God IS Good - all the time!

I don’t smoke!😃
How nice for you.
sorry, the sarcasm button for me is in full gear – nicotine free for almost 12 hours – :banghead: .
I sinned 30 years ago when I took my first cigarette and am paying for it now.
How about some prayers for those in the purgatory of trying to quit, rather than (I’m better than you) I don’t smoke 😃 ?

I’ve been smoking cigarettes (2 pack a day habit) for over 30 years. I’ve got a cigarette in my mouth as I’m typing this. Ash Wednesday is my quit date. I’m laying in a stock of Nicorette gum, (to handle the cravings), sugar-free lollipops and rosary beads, centerpieces and crucifixes (making rosaries will give me something to do with my hands – I hope). And I’ve got an appointment with my confessor on Tuesday morning to enlist his prayers and blessing.

I know I will need prayer and support. If anyone else is trying to overcome this sin this Lent, perhaps we can use this thread to offer each other encouragement in this discipline. Former smokers are welcome to offer tips on how they did it. Thank you. . . please pray for me; I’ll pray for you. . .
You can do it! I will pray for you. I quit using smokeless tobacco on April 2, 2005- almost a year now. I did it cold turkey and havent slipped once during this time. I started the Devotion to the Sacred Heart at the same time I quit. I really beleive this devotion has given me the grace to stay tobacco free. But whatever works for you! God Bless!

I’m not a smoker but just wanted to let you guys know that i will be praying for you. I’ve watched many friends pick up this habit and know that it has been hard for them to quit…Just remember it is okay if you fall because each day…each hour is a new chance to succeed. (this is what i tell myelf everytime when i fall off of my horse to give up bad habits).

Here are some benfits from
lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=33568
When smokers quit, within twenty minutes of smoking that last cigarette the body begins a series of changes.

At 20 minutes after quitting:
blood pressure decreases
pulse rate drops
body temperature of hands and feet increase
At 8 hours:
carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal
oxygen level in blood increases to normal
**At 24 hours:**chance of a heart attack decreases
**At 48 hours: **nerve endings start regrowing
ability to smell and taste is enhanced

Look just within the first 2 days you already have positive results…You can do it…I have faith in all of you…GOD BLESS you all in your struggle to pick up this cross…

Thank you for your kindness! It has been 41 days for me and I am finding it difficult. I can now look in Jesus’ eyes when I do the rosary thread on the crucifuxion…although barely as I am such a sinner. But if this one sin could be overcome, the only thing I could say…only by the grace of God go I! Here is the picture:

I really wanted to quite smoking this Lent, but I have two breast biopsies scheduled for Monday, and I’m just too nervous.

I am saying the rosary every day and am trying to give up swearing.
I did quite for three years, but then 9/11 happened and --oh well.
Maybe after I get the results, I will think about quitting.

Good lucky everyone! I will be praying for you.

Peace,
MSGirl ❤️

That sounds about right!
I was at service today, and I am now smoke free. It is tough, but it is nothing compared to the suffering that Jesus went through for us. I keep thinking of that when it gets hard.

I love you all, and I will pray for you every day!

Brad

I don’t smoke, but I’ll pray for all of you to be successful in quitting, getting ready to quit, or to stay quit! 🙂 (I lost a grandfather to smoking-related lung cancer).
