I really don’t like reading it at all. I have to though. My brother who I can credit for me coming back to the Catholic Church because of his distaste for it, has compelled me. I have seen these type books in his house and if I am going to be an example of love for him and talk to him I should understand what he has read.
I feel grounded in my faith sufficiently to read this stuff, and you get familiar with how they mis-represent the Catholic faith. I do need to take breaks, because once you see the mis-representation it kinda sickens you how they can be so blatant in their bias. I do need to take breaks from time to time, but I am building my library of (used) anti-catholic books. I have 4 right now and soon will have 5 with this one I am ordering. I think I will stop there and take a break from this sort of thing in a month or two.
You start to see patterns though and will see how many often quote from each other, such a Peter de Rosa or Dollinger and then have the nerve to call them devout Catholic historians.
All this stuff does wear you out and I will take the advice of someone on this forum and take a break from all the books and concentrate on Bible study until I am refreshed. I would really like to start a second Bible study for young adults in my Parish, we have one mostly consisting of older people.
God Bless
