Actually that is quite debateable. if you look closely these are three winged figures (angels) who appeared to Abraham. His tree is depicted in the background. Since the icon was kept in the Holy Trinity monastry it became known as the Trinity Icon. The icon is symbolic but I very much doubt that Rublev was trying to depict the Trinity - rather angelic adoration of the Real Presence in the Sacred Host.
