She’s literally affiliated with a party that advocates for the seizing of private property and the abolition of capitalism.
Sign me up.
Even our poor are not poor by global standards.
I’ll let the clients at the hospitality kitchen today know that we don’t need to do anything to improve their lives because they aren’t poor.

Being the richest nation in the world is not laudable if everyone isn’t taken care of, my goodness.

Then you’re at odds with the Church. The Church recognizes that man has the right to own property.

You realize that private property and personal property can be one in the same right?

No need to wait. One can find it in Venezuela and Cuba right now.
You cannot find it in Venezuela, but I would love to move to Cuba.
You realize that private property and personal property can be one in the same right?
Under a capitalist system, hence people singing the praises of capitalism while I run a hospitality kitchen for a largely homeless population. The conflation of private and personal property under capitalism is why there are half a million homeless people in this country while there are 15 million vacant dwelling units.

“Personal property” is everything other than real property. (real estate) It can be “private” or “public”.

“Private property” is a wider concept, including both real property and personal property not owned by the government.

And those dwellings are owned by other people. Our options are not to either leave the homeless on the street or forcibly appropriate the property of someone. Someone earned their home, and you haven’t the right to take it away because of your desire to fight for a greater good.

No… your just assuming that.

How many of the half million homeless are mentally ill and/or hooked on drugs? How many homeless were victims of some type of abuse leaving them without the life skills necessary to hold a steady job or maintain a household?

It’s not for you to decide how many homes someone can own. Because your line of logic could be applied to the most extreme, whereby the government dictates what you can have as far as what car you drive, what clothes you can wear and what faith you can practice. That is the road marxism takes us down, and that is why the Church has rightly opposed marxism.

Instead of offering political demagoguery, why not respond to the facts. I didn’t say they weren’t poor. I said our poor are not poor by global standards. One need only look at places where around the world, many of them socialist, by the way.
Try this:

Being the richest nation in the world is not laudable if everyone isn’t taken care of, my goodness.
Being the richest nation in the world is laudable when compared to calls for socialism. Fact: America’s poor are rather well cared for compared to the world. And if government got out of the way, they’d probably be even better off.

Not to mention what’s to stop a socialist government from seizing the property of the Church? The Soviet Union destroyed the Cathedral of Moscow and shuttered many many Orthodox Churches throughout the USSR. What stops the government of a socialist state from seizing that?

Not to mention the fact that all of those products made available to us were manufactured by hardworking individuals striving to make a living.
AOC clearly hasn’t thought this through.

There’s generally a reason no one will allow the homeless person to live on their property.

Sure, not all homeless people are mentally ill, substance abusers, or people abusers. And I see that in between the government and private groups, a lot of the people who are not any of the above are taken care of.

Could things be better? Absolutely. And I think a lot of us here at CAF do what we can to help.

However, despite the government’s spending 1 trillion dollars on the war on poverty, the best reduction has been from 18 to 11 percent. Some people just need a hand up, but others need more help than exists: we don’'t yet have brain zappers to magically cure schizophrenics or addicts.

In other words, authoritarian socialism, sometimes practiced as fascism, sometimes as communism.
I’ll not sign up for any of it.

There should be more billionaires, more millionaires too. Capitalism is the only force on the planet that will pull people up out of abject poverty. Everyone should own a mansion says the capitalist. The socialist says no one should live in a mansion.
