The verge article from 4 years ago doesn’t appear to be causal or related to the most recent stock price changes. Looking at the shift in prices from 2015 to now I don’t see a connection.

In 2015 Apple CEO called placed a call to Gov Pence of Indiana to discourage him from signing a bill similar to the federal DOMA law. At the time, to many religious conservative people this was seen as corporate meddling in public affairs, especially picking on one smallish state. Of course liberals loved it. Pretty disheartening to see.

Anyways, now that Pence is the VP and this tariff will hurt large international companies(hopefully for the betterment of US based ones and their employees) like Apple, it seems as if the tables have turned after nearly 4 years.

edit; if you are looking at the stock price to see what is going on; everything was fine in early 2015, because Tim Cook was able to dictate to a state how to conduct policy, however the former leader of that state is now part of the presidents cabinet and dictating (indirectly to Apple) see the price drop happening now.
