But here’s the real kicker–a couple of young men were literally eyeballing me! Nothing particularly alluring about my clothing–it’s windy and chilly, I was wearing a long trenchcoat over a pair of fairly wide-legged trousers and a cowlneck sweater. Pretty nondescript.
Could just be a simple human desire to peer at what is hidden. It’s a basic mechanism, I’d say. Now, if most or many women wore mantillas at that Mass, you might not be so interesting.

Also, I don’t know where you live, but US/UK culture is pretty decadent right now. It’s astonishingly vulgar and that includes young men leering at older women, I think.

Being Asian, I’ve brought up to dress appropriately for church. Mostly in tradational clothes. For me it’s the saree. I did use a veil in the early days(1960-1975) but now have discontinued with it simply because every one else is not using. I certainly feel the need to inculcate the need to dress modestly in our young adults.

WHY ALWAYS WOMEN. WHY NOT BLINDFOLDS FOR MEN INSTEAD; because to be honest most men have either xray vision or a vivid imagination 😃

I think we need to be careful about not shaming men. For all we know, those guys might have been looking at her out of curiosity.

Dear InquisitorMax,

Cordial greetings and a very good day.

Jolly good posts old chap.

It is because of the rise of vulgarity and decadence that the Catholic faithful must don modest attire, thereby exemplifying an alternative Christian counter-culture that shows a proper reserve by not trespassing the boundaries of propriety.

The recalcitrant refusal by some Catholics to wear clothing that is expressive of modesty and which befits a profession of religion, stems from a failure to think with an authentic Christian mind and the worldly infulence of a post-Christian outlook.

In addition to Bible and Church teaching, Catholics surely have a charitable obligation to do all within our power to reduce the strength of evil desire and neutralize its powerful effects. If this can in large measure be achieved by the wearing of modest apparel, then so be it.

Warmest good wishes,
