1st-I am a celibate gay person-I don’t even usually refer to myself as gay since I do not live the lifestyle-but for this purpose I feel it is necessary.

2nd-I could no more change my orientation than any straight person could change theirs. Trust me on this one-I’ve tried.

3rd-it doesn’t matter whether you act on your orientation or not-you can still be the target of intolerance and bullying-very often from those who profess their Christianity the loudest. If you’re not dating/married, not drooling over men/women or if “they” can tell by any other behavioral characteristics-you’re a target.

4th-if there is ANYTHING that could help a child not live through the hell I lived through in school I’m all for it.

Fitswimmer,

Many young people are abused. Did you not see over weigh kids, tall kids, poor kids taking abuse?

This Day of Silence is also about the acceptance of a gay lifestyle.

To further promote it to grades 5 through 8 is wrong.

I still agree with a Day of Silence, mostly because I know as a person who has lived over 40 years with a homosexual orientation the choice to live the lifestyle or not isn’t made because of what you learn in school. It’s what you learn at HOME. However, bullying and abuse of other students IS learned in school. This program encourages an environment where abusing one another for being different is socially unacceptable. If kids can learn that abusing gay students is unacceptable (and it is-even though the lifestyle is a sin) it is more likely that they will come to an understanding that NO different person should be abused.

Agreed. The students are not promoting homosexuality, they are promoting tolerance of it. They aren’t trying to talk folks into being gay; they are trying to stop violence against gays - who are targeted because they are labeled as freaks - I mentioned this above along with proof that the Massresitance web site is not always accurate. Anytime I see scare tactics I immediately get suspicious. Scare tactics are designed to appeal to our emotions and override our brain. This is just a bad idea, IMO. 😦

I would agree that the choice to be gay is usually not a conscious choice. True same-sex attraction often starts at a very young age when one is not able to make any conscious choice. I don’t know of anyone who studies this field who disputes that. Many experts believe if parents would seek help at an early age, many of these children could be helped.

My problem is that there are a number of teens who already Some are questioning their sexual identity. Some feel an attraction for both sexes. I want them to be able to work this out without any outside influence.

I am not opposed to a day of kindness(silence) for everyone.

You didn’t say that the other side is dishonest. The film that they showed at the conference - Heneini, Coming out in a Jewish School is about a young girl who is gay.

That film was made about five years ago and wasn’t even made at the school. Some interviews were done at the school. Guess what. This same young girl is now dating boys.

Gay-Straight Alliances(GLSEN) are asking students to wear pink.

Some schools are on vacation so the day that the events will take place is **April 30 **although some took place earlier. It is best to call your own school.

This is one of many t-shirts that will be passed out in MA according to MassResistance.

Tolerance of something is a quiet acknowledgement that it exists.

What they are doing in schools is championing it.

I was ‘helped’. Read that as ‘forced’ into therapy for my effeminate behavior as a child. It was an entirely new way of abuse. I was forced into sports I hated, I was forced to wear rubber bands and snap them at myself whenever I acted non-male, my parents were encouraged to do it for me, since I obviously was a poor judge of male and female behavior. I was forced to wrestle, I was ‘roughed up’ I was beaten, I was given speech therapy, I was even given testosterone injections as an experiment.

It drove me crazy. I tried to commit suicide at 9, 12, 14, 15 and 17 while under the therapy. Once I turned 18 and left my family I stopped going to the therapy, and I was no longer depressed. Funny that, huh?

I think gay people should be treated respect, but meaningless gestures like not talking for a day aren’t my style.

I am terribly sorry that this happened to you. I don’t think it is about sports and being physically rough. Many male artists, nurses and hairdressers are heterosexual and married.I have heard that SSA is pretty ingrained even at age 3 or 5 so it is difficult to say.I have spoken to Stephen Bennett (Ministries) who is a married but lived the gay life style so maybe his SSA was different. I am praying for answers.

Like somebody previously mentioned, I don’t mind a day of silence for all of those who are physically assaulted and bullied. Does the Gay-Straight Alliance have an agenda? Probably. All forms of education are propaganda.
