Archbishop Chaput: Charity Isn't Proselytizing, It's Professing [Zenit]

Archbishop Chaput brings up a very important point that is so often overlooked by the “social justice” crowd in this country:
“Everything in Catholic social ministry begins and ends with Jesus Christ,” he said. “If it doesn’t, it isn’t Catholic. And if our social work isn’t deeply, confidently and explicitly Catholic in its identity, then we should stop using the word 'Catholic.’ It’s that simple.”
Social work is an expression of our faith in Christ. The social work is not an end in of itself.
To often we see manifestations of this social work where the social is the end and not Jesus Christ (see an extremely high percentage of the efforts funded by CCHD as a glaring example).
No wonder Cardinal Turkson (President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace) has expressed his bemusement at the American Social Justice crowd…

These so called social workers have embraced not the CC teachings but the worlds social justice. the thing is they have never been stopped. I hope that these things are not just public but these people have been admonished by the leaders and asked to stop if they are being disobedient. what ever happened to the teachings of the Apostles who tought with authority? if you dont show authority, no one is going to obey.

Admonishing sinners, Instructing the Uniformed, and Counselling the Doubtful are all Spiritual Works of Mercy.
As stated in other threads, when a Catholic publically and seriously violates Catholic teaching within a particular Diocese, contact the Diocese Bishop (if it can not be handled by your Pastor).
This includes Catholic hospitals, Catholic universities, Catholic politicians, all Catholic organizations, Catholic Parishes, etc.
If the Bishop does not correct the abuse, contact the Vatican with a copy to the offending Bishop, and the Papal Nuncio assigned to that Country.
Also as stated previously, neither Bishops nor the Vatican are mind-readers. Do not expect them to know everything that goes on all the time. Do not ASSUME.

There are no “social wokers” as you sppek of them. There are Social Workers with professional training and some with clinical licenses, and I am one of them.These so called social workers have embraced not the CC teachings but the worlds social justice. the thing is they have never been stopped. Social Workers may work in Church agencies as I did for Catholic Charities or for many agencies, or work in private practice.
The Church’s efforts towards social justice may involve trained Social Workers but by no means is provided soley or remotely by a majority of Social Workers.

Archbishop Chaput has once again shown himself to be a leader of great intellectual depth and common sense, while remaining faithful to the truth handed down to the Church through the apostles.
We need another thousand bishops like him and six billion more followers. Then the Church would be in pretty good shape for a while.
