A century after Japan’s annexation of Korea, a leading Japanese prelate has called upon his nation to conduct an honest examination of its past.
“It is essential that we all re-examine everything related to Japanese colonialism, including the responsibilities of the Catholic Church in Japan, at this important turning point in history,” said Archbishop Leo Jun Ikenaga of Osaka, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Japan.
