Archbishop of Denver warns that Conn. bill threatens Catholics everywhere (CNA)

Denver, Colo., Mar 9, 2009 / 05:53 pm (CNA).- Although the legislation in question was introduced in Connecticut, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver has issued a statement on a bill that would effectively sever the relationship between a bishop and his pastors and parishes. At some point, the Catholic Church is going to have to refuse to recognize the legitimacy of the secular governments due to their unjust laws. I have a feeling it will have to happen sooner than later.

More reasons to pray for sure…but Catholics have to vote as a bloc for once. Certainly not the way we have been and certainly we have to speak up to the legislators as well. I hope the diocese of Bridgeport can rally everyone who is Christian and those who understand the importance of the protection of the constitution when it comes to religious liberty. Otherwise…how far are we away from a government we won’t even recognize? Pray with me!!

Sadly I believe Catholics are voting in Blocks. Not one unified but blocks none the less.

Cafeteria style religion beliefs allow for as many “blocks” as personal acceptance to any issue. So if you believe that BC is ok then you vote to allow it and make everyone pay for it. If you don’t believe that abortion should never to be supported you vote to allow it (saying all the while you would never do it but you can’t tell others what to do). This list can go on and on. So IMHO the 46% of Catholics that did not vote for BHO voted as a block. But, it is always the 54% that voted because of one issue or another for BHO that get the publicity (maybe only 46% actually believe in the teachings of Holy Mother Church).

What ever in the world prompted this one by the Conneticutt legislature???
I’m outraged that they think they can attempt to get away with this!
it is clearly a violation of the seperation of church and state.

Next thing will be an attempt to possibly do this to protestant churches as well.
Clearly an attack on the Catholic Church, and Christianity.Sounds like they are following the old communistic thought of the State as a religion like it was in the Soviet Union.

I’ll have to read the article, but it makes me mad.

However, I fail to see how in the world this would sever any ties to a bishop and his priests and parishes. To me, that’s defeatest talk. In Europe, especially eastern Europe, the Church may have had to go underground, but still the bishops had contact with their priests and parishes, even ordained men to the priesthood ,etc.while under the heel of the
Soviets and the Church survived in Poland, during and after WW2 having to deal with the Nazis and Soviets.
