The Archbishop of Canterbury yesterday made his most outspoken challenge to the Roman Catholic Church since the Pope invited disaffected Anglicans to switch to Rome.
Speaking before he meets Benedict XVI tomorrow, Dr Rowan Williams told a conference in Rome that the Catholic Church’s refusal to ordain women was a bar to Christian unity.
“For many Anglicans, not ordaining women has a possible unwelcome implication about the difference between baptised men and baptised women,” he said.
The Anglican provinces that ordain women had retained rather than lost their Catholic holiness and sacramentalism, he said.

Women should never be priest.God made men and women equal but we each have different roles to do. Some people need to put there egos aside and accept how God made us. I use this example for this subject. Mary respected Joseph and obeyed him, Even though Mary was the Mother of God and basically the Queen of Heaven, earth and the angels and difiently of greater importance than Joseph. She never told joseph that she wants to call all the shots and that joseph had to follow her commands but instead she humbled herself and obeyed him. Thats what some women today need to do.🙂

First off, I totally agree that women shouldn’t be priests. Further more, consider what the Archbishop says to support his claim: “For many Anglicans, not ordaining women has a possible unwelcome implication about the difference between baptised men and baptised women.” Have you ever heard something so wishy-washy from a spiritual (and supposedly Catholic) leader? He sounds like a politician! And he is acting like one, too; he doesn’t say that his statement is what his church holds to be true as handed down by God and as has been lived for over two thousand years - because he can’t, unlike us 🙂 - but starts off by saying “For many Anglicans.” Woah, stop right there. Things like this can’t be changed just because there is a large church filled with delusioned people who want it to happen. A church is not a democracy: it is a hierarchy of men with a hierarchy of laws with God and Love at the top; the common people don’t have a say in what is right, because God is the one who decides what is right, not them. End of story.

I definitely agree we don’t women priests but your statement “That’s what some women today need to do” begs the following statement, “Men should love their wives…” The man should be worth of being obeyed, not all are.

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word,
that he might present to himself the church in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
So (also) husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself”

I wonder why do they refer to him as “Dr. Williams”? Plenty of Catholic bishops, including the Holy Father, have doctoral degrees, but no one refers to them as doctor.

I think he is worried this is the death knell for the Church of England and he is trying to maintain some control

The Pope gave a recent speech which he spoke of the beauty of God’s creation for both men and women. How we are equal in God’s eyes and are complements to each other NOT interchangeable of each other though.

The Archbishop of Canterbury should put the drama and public soap box to the side instead of grandstanding.

Numbers of people in all walks of life have the right to the title ‘Doctor’ - not all of them insist on its being used. I had two teachers in high school who both had doctorates. One was always ‘Dr X’, the other ‘Mr Y’. It’s a matter of personal preference.

I wouldn’t grudge someone who worked hard for their PhD the right to be recognised for their achievements, and I’m sure there are probably Catholic bishops out there who do ask to be called ‘Doctor’ as well 🤷

?? The quote is from Rowan Williams, the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury, not from any Catholic (or supposedly Catholic) leader.

Rowan Williams is a shepherd who has been inducted as an honorary white druid, promoted Unitarianism, called for the implementation and tolerance of sharia law for Moslems in Britain, equated homosexual relationships with heterosexual marriage, and apologized to Freemasons for referring to Freemasonry as incompatible with Christianity. It should not be surprising that he would call for the ordination of women and active homosexuals as priests. He is one of those spiritual leaders of whom our Lord spoke when he said, "Let them alone: they are blind, and leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the pit." (Matthew 15:14)

I thought that Anglicans called themselves a Catholic faith. Kind of like the Orthodox, though Anglicans are at a extremely higher level of mistakeness. I was trying to imply that their claims to Catholicism are be disregarded, though I now see that everyone already knew that; at the time I didn’t understand just how messed-up the Anglican Church is.

some call themselves Anglo Catholics and I suspect they are the ones swimming the Tiber

The second line of the original statement (I have trouble with that ‘quote’ function) made me laugh out loud! Just the opposite is the case. THEIR decision TO ordain women is the ‘bar to Christian unity’, in my op! God bless all who honestly seek and struggle to find the Truth.

“The sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is entrusted to us” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1131). The efficacious sign of the Sacrament of Holy Order is the unbroken tradition of reserving priestly ordination to men, which has its origin in Christ, and was entrusted to the apostles and their successors. This is how Christ established it in his Church, and to allege that Christ was conditioned by his culture, is also to suggest that Christ was not free to constitute his Church according to his will. Christ willed the constitution of the Church, one of which is Holy Order, hence, the Church has no authority to alter it.

Oh I’m aware that not everyone with doctorates wants to be called doctor, as I am one of those people. I’ve just never heard of bishops with doctorates being referred to as “Dr. X” over “Bishop X”. I would think that the latter is a lot more important.

…excuse me, I thought we were talking about “women priests”.

I do not like the idea of women priests. God gave a woman the special privilege of bearing a child. Something a man cannot do. That makes me feel very special!!!🙂

The child is the beauty of God present in the world, the greatest gift to a family.
