This is misleading
•HIV-infected women whose only initially reported risk factor is sex with women are given high priority for follow-up investigation. As of December 2004, none of these investigations **had confirmed **female-to-female HIV transmission, either because other risk factors were later identified or because some women declined to be interviewed.
•A study of more than 1 million female blood donors found no HIV-infected women whose only risk factor was sex with women. Despite the absence of confirmed cases of female-to-female transmission of HIV, the findings do not negate the possibility. Information on whether a woman had sex with women is missing in more than 60% of the 246,461 case reports―possibly because the physician did not ask or the woman did not volunteer the information.

You know, I used to be Roman Catholic, and I’m extremely well-educated on the teachings and how they came to be. Disagreeing doesn’t necessarily mean one is ignorant, it just means that one has given it a great deal of thought and reached the conclusion that those teachings are wrong.

I love that rather than sticking to the topic, I’m getting jabs at my religion by people who don’t know what the word “gnosis” means. It’s an effective way of diverting the topic, but not very charitable.
 
I was referring to the fact that **aemcpa **seems to think “gnosis” and “episteme” are the same type of knowledge. I don’t know if you agree with that or not, but I’d love to hear what you have to say about Gnosis in these various contexts. Feel free to email me if you’d like.

That’s your opinion. Mine is that you are in error. But the issue of charity here wasn’t about homosexuality, it was about dismissing my opinion based on my religion, as if Gnosis had anything to do with the issue. If I were a Baptist, would “secret knowledge” have even been brought up? “Secret knowledge” has nothing to do with my views on homosexuality – rather, my views are based on my God-given conscience.
 
I freely and openly discuss my faith as well… I think perhaps we have different meanings of “secret” going on here. You at least presented your opinion that your Church contains the truth… And your Church certainly has an opinion as well. Mind you, my Church is also apostolic, and Her opinion is different from Catholicism.

Archbishop Tutu knows what it is like to live in a world where one group of people can legally separate from, repress and discriminate another group of people for superficial reasons. He spent many years of his life struggling against that notion. Whether or not a person chooses to see homosexual issues in that light, stepping back I can see how someone could see shadows of apartheid haunting it.

Mind you, I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with the Archbishop’s statement. But I can conceive of a reason for saying it.

That said…I agree with others who have said that God is indeed not homo-phobic…how could God “fear” homosexuals…After all, that is what a phobia is…it’s a fear.
Neither is the Church homophobic…the Church does not “fear” homosexuals.

Yet the media and the homosexual community has hit upon this word - probably because "phobia’s are seen as mental disorders - as defined in the context of clinical psychology. (See Here for the actual definition). Thus the gay community can dismiss the deeply held religious belief as being irrational and present it to the world as a “sickness”…

In short, “Homophobia” is a grossly overused term that is, in the vast majority of cases, quite inaccurate.

It is truly sad to see someone with as much clout as Mr Tutu has using such an inaccurate term…unless - as is certainly possible - he is being quoted out of context.

In the past, homosexuality used to get classified as a disorder. I won’t be surprised if in the future, homophobia (and religion too) get classified as mental disorders.
