For full disclosure, I am a subscriber to the NCR. I went over to their website today and read their story on the appointment of Archbishop Gregory. They had a glowing account of him, not mentioning anything concerning what these other outlets have reported. We must remember that even they put their own spin on things. I wrote them a note, asking that they investigate these other charges against him and report on what they have found. All I am looking for is the truth.

Fr. James Martin SJ has greatly praised this appointment on social media. That should silence the critics. Now if only Fr. Martin would be elevated to the episcopacy!

I live in the Atlanta area and I have not seen any of what you are describing. That the archbishop worked with the other bishops and cardinals is not the same thing as “He was a frequent attendee at his wild soirees at the beach house” That there might be other issues other than abortion does not mean that Wilton Gregory was not very prolife. There are many instances in which he demonstrated this in word and deed. I have seen no evidence of him promoting homosexuality, woman priests, or holy communion for the civilly remarried.

I have a bad taste in my mouth but mainly for personal reasons that I would rather not discuss. I would point out these stories that kind of show what a previous poster mentioned

These are just a few from various media that relate to what the previous poster was stating. There are many, many more.

To me, the fact that bishops were specifically left out of the 2002 reforms that Archbishop Gregory implemented (and a major cause of our current mess) is a major part of my discomfort. The fact that he was so close with McCarrick, Wuerl, Tobin, Cupich, etc. who all benefitted at least short term from the neglecting to add bishops to the zero tolerance makes it harder for me.

Time will tell if this is a good appointment or not. I pray my initial discomfort turns out to be a strike against me and not another against our Church.
