I was asking for practical advice. I guess a lot of people have a strange fixation on sodomy. But, believe it or not, there are many Catholic communities that welcome everyone. I mean, what do you want? Should Father ask these people to no longer come to Mass? I was going to tell where I was from, but I fear your charity begins and ends with sodomy.
Who said I was fixated? I post on a lot of issues in this forum, unlike others, from popular media to liturgy to other things. This particular thread is about homosexuality, so I won’t go into other things here.

When you say “welcome everyone” what exactly do you mean? Offer the sacraments to those living publicly in a state of grave sin?

And of course they are welcome at Mass. All parishes shoulf welcome everyone to Mass. However, one can attend Mass without receiving Communion. Not to do so just compounds their sin.

. I just don’t know why people are so fixated on sex as the needy get passed by.
As Catholics we need to both. A person who passes by someone in need without helping them is not their souls any good. That means both the hungry cold person and the morally disordered as well
Your dire warnings are a thing of your brain. Move outside of yourself to Christ’s love.
Christs love alwas includes a call for repentance. Any demostration of love that does not include a love for their eternal salvation is meaningless.

Brendan, my dear soul, the Spiritual Mercies call us to warn the sinner, this is true. What is truly spiritually troubling to me is when the faithful have decided that Christ’s Mercies & the promise of redemption only belong to people such as themselves.Christ does not come to us as the wagging finger of a church lady.

One of the reasons that Jesus’ message resonated was because the in His world the people in power looked like their gods. They dressed like their gods, talked like their gods. Our Savior came to the oppressed & said there is, in fact, redemption even though you are a slave. There is hope. That’s kinda what made him popular too. Sickness in His time was seen as a sin. Mental illness meant that you were cursed by the gods. Jesus came to us and said that this was not true.

Why can’t we do the same?

I think that this thread has gone all over the place, except to the real issue. The issue is not what gay people do or not do in their bedroom, at least not in this case. The issue is whether or not the government have the right to tell its citizens that they have to accept something that they consdier immoral.

If the government wants to accept same-sex marriage, that’s one point. But to say that a religious organization cannot follow its moral law is another. I believe that Catholics need to stand up to government and demand that government not interfere with faith.

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

The trouble is that people are too tolerant of this unnatural sexual behavior. It’s not normal and it’s nothing people need to hear about constantly as being okay. Sex is a private matter, it belongs in the bedroom, and it should be about procreation, not impure acts. (this goes for heterosexuals too ) I for one have just about had it with all this homosexual agenda. To me it is very immoral and not something people should be proud of or flaunt. Just my :twocents:!!
well maybe weve had it up to here with your st8 agenda being rammed down our throats for the last 2000 years. if you dont want a gay marriage then dont get one, and leave those of us who do to get one.

being an Australian what happens in the US doent concern me overly…most aussies think of you Americans as stone-age religious fanantics anyway (including many catholics in this country)
but seriouly eveyone deserves to be legaly joined to their long term partner under the law…if u perosnaly disagree with homosexuality thats one issue, one that I do respect…but when u impose your standards to others and stop same sex couples from having equal right thats discrimionation…we are all entitled to our private opinions…but our private opinions should govern what we do in our own lives NOT govern others who dont belive the same thing. to do so is nothign other than discrimination

Okay, okay. Take a deep breath. Just for the heck of it, what if anything, would you do if you were me? Now, I lead with compassion & offer spiritual nourishment & friendship. I just don’t know why people are so fixated on sex as the needy get passed by.

Your dire warnings are a thing of your brain. Move outside of yourself to Christ’s love.
I hate to break this to you…but God came to save the spiritually needy; not the materially needy. If you do not think your homosexual lifestyle is wrong, then you are indeed one of the needy.

We can, we can work to heal the sick. But Christ also said that His Path was the hard one, His gate narrow.

Christ certainly did remove a lot of older misconceptions. But one area, probably the only area where He was MORE restrictive that the old Law was in the area of sexuality.

In Divorce, Adultery, Licentiousness, He was substantially further than the old Law.

He did not tell us to seek temporal happiness at the expense of spiritual damage, but this is exactly where sexual sin, including homosexual acts does. That is why we must preach against it and include in our loving acts, a call to repentance. For that is probably the most loving act there is.

Jesus actually cured those people with mental illness by pulling demons out of them.

Don’t be confused between equal rights and natural rights, they’re not the same.

Who’s imposing who?

Last I checked, it was the other way around. Your sympathy is misplaced aussie.

Hmmmmmm. I have no idea what I would do if I were you. I don’t know who you are nor what you do nor who you “lead with compassion”. I do know this…if one truly CARES about another who is doing something against God’s will & that same person does not try to “lead them with compassion” back into Christ’'s will & His Love…he/she is no friend. A friend cares about another’s soul.

Tell that to my 10 yr. old granddaughter. We went to the mall about 2 wks. ago. When we were finished shopping & were leaving, we opened the exit door & came face to face with two men sitting on a bench kissing. Believe me, there was no way to answer her questions, but with the truth.

Christ came to save us sinners & His words “Go & sin no more” have been forgotten by those who tolerate everything…everything, that is, but the truth of God’s justice.

I’m more interested in how Catholics are going to protect the right of the Church to run its ministries. Since most people on this thread want to discuss the morality of gay behavior, than the government violation of the rights of the Church, I don’t have a place here. I’ll take my leave and check in once in a while in case someone wants to discuss how to protect our ministries from government’s abuse of power.

Do you have any suggestions? Start a petition? Write to the lawmakers?

If you do not vote in the District of Columbia, it is very unlikely that the City Council will take you seriously. But you can write letters of support to the Archbishop of Washington, DC. Also, the District of Columbia is a federal city. The House of Representative still maintains legal authority over the city.

Writing to the local press is also good. The City Council knows that the city’s government is subsidized with federal money , since the city does not have a state to shelter it, as do other cities. Catholics can object to the use of federal moneis supporting the government of the District of Columbia unti lthey allow the Church freedom to exercise her ministry at her discretion. We can deluge the Federal courts in DC. Remind the judges that this is unconstitutional and that they have the duty to enforce the Constitution. Federal courts are not to be making laws, but they have to enforce the laws. They are sitting there quietly. They need to be reminded, very politely, but very clearly, that we citizens expect them to look at these things and take action to stop any infringment of our constitutional rights as citizens.

Sounds good, I will compose a letter along those lines. Catholics need to get their political agenda more organized. Evangelicals seem to have more political pull. Whatever happened to the Moral majority? Christians do need to unite and sound off!!

Listen to me…I knew I was gay by the time I was 2. most gay people I know knew they were gay from childhood…onyl afew came to the realization that they were gay during adluthood. its Natural for some people to be homosexual and its Natural for some people to be Hetrosexual. some of the greatst men and women in Hisotr were homosexual or bisexual. its been around for as long as hetrosexuality has.

were in evey culture, evey race, evey creed, every religon on this earth…the catholic church will no suceed in stamping out our rights. religion is a choice, Sexual preferance is not…your all figting a battle that ur loose…and the finnialy in 2 or 3 hundred years when the church finaily says “opps we stuffed up” (as its done so many times i,e Galileo Galilei, Darwin etc) the faith of those remainign will be rocked once again.

there is nothing unnatural about homosexuality…just cause the bible says so? if u read the bible it also says that men with long hair should be stoned. come on people the bible is divinly isnpiried but writen by humans, lookign at the world and God though their own Cultural lens…there are many good things to take from the bible…its teaching about Homosexuality, Mysogony, men with long hair etc arnt some of them…

Our position should never be about denying homosexuals their human rights. That would be contrary to Church teaching. They have human rights and the Church protects those rights. However, no government has the right to ride rough shot over its citizens. How we run our religious organiztions is up to us, not the government. When the government says that it will penalize us because we do not accept same-sex marriage, it is penalizing us for our religious beliefs. When did the government receive a mandate from its citizens to regulate religion?

@Aussie:

With all due respect, you appear to be very confused about the Catholic Church. The Church is not in the business of stamping out human rights. In fact, the Church is probably responsible for the end of slavery in Western culture as well as the basis for what we now refer to as fundamental human rights.

This forum community will happy to help you learn about what the Church actually teaches, and I think you’ll come to find that hatred is not a part of it.
