Archdiocese of Moncton poised to Lose Cathedral

I am saying a prayer. That Cathedral is quite lovely! It would be a shame to lose it!
 
Thank You for the Posting. SAD Comments on that site. Landmarks, Catholic history should Never be bulldozed. It is 20 years later that that the Gravity of the mistake is realized.

Well, that’s just it exactly. And it would be no different if it were a synagogue or mosque. The Cathedral is a major part of the history of the area and, while the “Cathedral”, as n the seat of the bishop, can be moved, you can’t “move” the historical significance of a building.

The CBC commenter tend to lean to the anti-faith end of things, but hey, that’s free speech.

Yes, about a year ago we had a historic church in Dubuque (St. Mary’s) which had to close for the very same reasons. The size of the congregation dwindled over the years and necessary maintenance was repeatedly deferred. Finally, repairs could no longer be ignored, but the cost of rescuing the building was more than people in the archdiocese were willing foot.

Its tempting to push off nagging problems until some later date, but those problems often grow worse, and multiply as well.

One possible solution, although it is a long shot, may be to contact the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. They have renovated and preserved other historic churches. However, the Archdiocese of Dubuque asked if they might be interested in St. Mary’s and were turned down. I’m not sure of the reason why, since Dubuque is a very Catholic area, but perhaps the size of the repair bill was too much for them.
 
Los Angeles should sell its new cathedral, contents included, and send a check to Moncton.

And to St. Mary’s, too.
