I doubt the existance of extraterrestrial beings because the belief in them may lead us far from God. Some people have faith in those things rather than God, our Savior.

I don’t think the belief that they exist is the problem. I think specific beliefs about what they are and what they have to teach us is. In specific, I think the quasi-spiritual belief in the wisdom of aliens that some UFO groups seem to have is the danger.

Alot of things can lead you away from God, doesn’t mean they are bad per say. They only have the power we give them.

I don’t see how life on another planet could affect our faith in any way. One does not exclude the other.

Anyone who can be led away from God by thinking aliens exist, would have been led away by something, anyway. That’s not a logical reason not to believe in them.

I’m not sure anyone should be “believing” in aliens. Perhaps “remaining open to the possibility of their existence” is the more reasonable stance?

I was referring to the original post, which referred to “belief.”

Since such belief basically coincides with the advent of cinema, and science fiction in particular, and since even Hubble cannot locate anything, what’s the point?

Some people will believe anything.

I’m very interested in alien life and UFO’s. I came in to suggest Jimmy Akin but somebody beat me to it.

I don’t personally have a problem with it leading me away from God. The way I see things; it makes God even more inspiring that creation may include beings that are outside of our own realm and current potential understanding.

Hubble has located a great many things. No one is expecting it to spot traffic jams on a distant world.

They could be. The evil one knows what resonates with modern man, and it is hard telling what kinds of tricks he could pull, to deceive mankind.

We do well not to dwell on this sort of thing, but rather, to think of the things of God and to try drawing closer to Him.

I think it is more common sense to reject the idea that extraterrestrials are vising us. For them to reach us, they have to be traveling faster than the speed of light, which means their technology is too advanced for us to do them any possible harm, which means if they were here they would simply show themselves to everybody via mass media and not just to a few ‘chosen ones’ or play hide and seek.

No I just recognize that the idea of intelligent life outside of earth is fiction WE on earth made up…

The only people who are doing that are those who without any evidence believe in aliens simply because the universe is vast

These threads and the arguments made are very common. You will shortly be informed how vast the universe is, the assumption will be made that you are just ignorant about the size.
