Are bikinis always sinful?

I wear a modest bikini :D. I do have a good reason for choosing that over a one piece but that would be TMI. My intentions are not to seduce men and I don’t parade myself around after I get out of the water. I always put a cover-up on. Its not as simple as one piece = modest and two piece = immodest.

Agreed. I wear a cover-up too.

Honestly - what is a good reason for wearing a bikini vs a one piece…a GOOD reason.

Myself? Cannot think of one.
One good reason is for support. One pieces tend to offer no breast support. Some do, but it’s minimally effective and the pieces often ugly. Some women, such as my wife, like the underwire support you can get from a bikini. She tends to wear a sun shirt too.

Well, one purpose would be that they are a style that some people like. I’ve worn bikinis when I was a little kid, and still do. Now I make sure it covers me and isn’t like a string bikini (they aren’t all skimpy). While one piece swimsuits are nice, there’s nothing wrong with a well fitted bikini just like there’s nothing wrong with a guy wearing swim trunks with no shirt or one of those competitive swim suits that are basically like a bikini bottom.QUOTE]

Speedos for men work for swimming competitions, but the problem with them is they pretty much give lots of emphasis to a guy’s private parts fairly clearly compared to the loose-fitting trunks.

I suppose you could put the question forward that if someone was visiting you in your home would you be comfortable merely wearing your underwear??
Underwear and nudity are not a problem in my house. I will admit that I have been in a situation where another person was uncomfortable and I put some clothes on. One example, is a time going to the beach with a female friend. It was a well known nude beach. I didn’t think anything of it, and shucked my shorts. She was obviously uncomfortable with that, so I put them back on, preferring to be more uncomfortable myself than to make her uncomfortable. The point is that it depends on who is present, and whether they are comfortable with normal nudity, or whether they sexualize it.

Ask the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I guess you have a point. I do not think that if Mary was around even in this time that she would be in a bikini.

Actually, I’d imagine she was extremely modest even to the point of covering her hair (wearing a veil). As most women wore back then.

I don’t believe you have to cover the hair on your head to be modest, but I’m assuming she probably still would.

If you want to keep men from lusting you as much as possible, I suggest not wearing a bikini. You know what wandering eyes lead to, and I’d assume you should feel guilty for making them lead astray like that.

It’s like giving a gun to a murderer. You are the one who will cause them to look because of your lack of clothing. And if they lust, its because you induced it.

Being in a bikini is basically being naked. Sure you can’t see those two parts, but really, you are practically naked, and that is not modest. You should be modest. I also believe men should be modest aswell.

Men taking off their shirts or men who wear speedos are bound to turn some heads too. Women are also capable of having wandering eyes.

Basically the message is that no matter the gender, you should be modest.

Wearing a bikini will more than likely cause others to lust after you. Why would you want to induce somebody into a mortal sin? How could you not feel guilty about that?

Let’s rephrase this shall we? Dressing like a nerd will more than likely cause others to mock you. Why would you want to induce somebody into mortal sin? How could you not feel guilty about that?

How does one dress like a nerd?

There are many fashion styles. And I think its better for somebody to dress modestly and somebody makes fun of you you because they are a jerk than to cause them to lust after you and see your naked body.

Dressing modest does not make you nerdy.

Would you rather somebody didn’t like you because they think you’re ‘nerdy’ or would you rather they like you because they saw you practically naked?

I think its a little obvious which one a person should choose.

No, in my opinion. I think women bodies are beautiful so why not show it off just for the look of it? I think it’s only a sin if a man cannot control his lust for a woman, it’s not a woman’s fault that she’s so beautiful.

And who cares, it’s not your worry what she’s doing. It’s her body, just don’t lust over it if you think that’s a sin. Don’t put the blame on the woman but on yourself.

Also I noticed less attractive women also blame the beautiful women for the lust of men. That’s not fair either, just because you are not as attractive or your relationship isn’t as strong.

If you cannot handle a woman in a bikini don’t go on the beach… just don’t blame her.
Now THAT’S a gentleman.

Thanks for the great post! 👍

I think truly beautiful women are the ones who can gain respect and show off their beauty without being practically naked.

And not all women who are against dressing like that are unattractive.

Oh you can DEFINITELY dress in a way that “incites” people to make fun of you.

Does that mean it’s partially YOUR fault if a person makes fun of you?

Both lack of charity and lust are grave sins. Apparently, you’ve never been harassed all your life because you looked and acted like the ‘typical nerd’.

There’s no difference between a perv and a troll. Both are morally reprehensible and I sympathize with any woman who gets objectified because some idiot chooses to value what he sees over what he doesn’t.

One of the posters early on in this thread made a very uncharitable accusation that all women who wear bikinis do it for no other reason than to purposely make men lust.

Apparently she can read the mind and heart of every single female on earth.

Nope, it just means that they have lots of growing up to do.

However, I don’t think prancing around with practically a naked body is a smart thing for a Christian woman to do. She should know better than that, because it is obvious that most men would lust.

I used to dress slutty too until I became strong in my faith. I dress modestly now and I don’t look dorky one bit. I wear very nice clothes, I just don’t walk around half naked. 🙂

And I’m pretty sure I made the right decision. Feel free to disagree. 👍

PS- I am very sorry if I offended you. I’m not trying to in anyway whatsoever. I am simply stating my beliefs. Feel free to wear what you want though. It is your life afterall.

I think every woman is beautiful in her own way. 🤷

“Slutty too?”

Oh I see. You mean slutty, like me, huh?

It is your decision entirely what you want to wear. And if you made the decision to change your wardrobe or to only wear one pieces to the beach, than all the power to you for doing what you felt was right.

What I don’t like is you looking down your nose on other women who, in your opinion, don’t dress as nicely as you, and going on to call them or their clothes slutty. And then making the rash accusation that most men are going to lust after every women who wears a bikini. I’ve lived at the beach my whole life, and about 90% of the women there wear bikinis. By your theory, that would mean that the majority of men at the beach are in a constant state of lust. Uh huh. I don’t believe that for a second.

We also have to remember that natural attraction and actual LUST are 2 distinctly different things.

Right, and lustful men are reeeeal mature.

More rephrasing: However, I don’t think walking around practically looking like a comic book geek is a smart thing for a real man to do. He should know better than that, because it is obvious that most jocks would mock him.

Sounds like a plan. 👍
