I can assure you that I am NOT lost. I find this here somewhat problematic. First of all, why isn’t BY making it a commandment and defining hot drinks as tea and coffee, etc. in the standard works? If LDS doctrine is only that which exists in scripture then it’s a problem because the WoW is then only a suggestion and is undefined. If you are telling me that uncanonized proclamations by BY are binding doctrine then you open up a huge can of worms. (Adam God, blood atonement, Jesus polygamy, moon inhabitants, etc.)
Lost is the wrong word. first as a child or young adult you did not gain a full knowledge of the lds church.
brigham young did in 1851 with the consent of the membership.
modern revelation.
its clear on this last bit that you did not understand the churches teachings.
But LDS doctrine changes periodically and I do NOT claim to be the expert on LDS doctrine. I have never had anyone explain to me why iced tea keeps you out of the temple but you can pound all the beef and pork down your gullet that you want even though the same WoW says not to. I was hoping that yuo could share how you reconcile that.
modern day revelation thats why things apear to change.
i assumed that you had been taught when in the church as a child or youth. this seems not to have happend. in a recommed iterview we are asked about smoking, drinking, tea and coffee and habit forming drugs see brighams youngs statement again. the remainder of the w o w is advice that comes with a promise read it again and remember when it was written.
When did I read that it’s okay to play basketball? yet every LDS chapel in America has a basketball court. I never heard, read, saw or had been made aware that any LDS member thought it was wrong. I was always told that it was prohibited by the WoW to drink coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages or to use illegal drinks. Proper use of medications containing alcohol was okay and cooking with wine was okay.
well as an older british person there probably should be a ban on basket ball especialy if your short like me.
the cooking is wrong its common sense. for us i am sure there are lots of mormons who do use this excuse but they are wrong.
propermedication as long as it is medication is fine since the ban on cfcs ashma inhalers now contain it.
