Americans are ill catechized.ahhh ok. That makes more sense. Though I think it is a cop out rather than looking at the real issue. Even if you cut the annulment in HALF by the fact that 100 percent of US annulments have a non Catholic participant, then we still by far take up more of our fair share. Why is that?
With trends like wedding on the beach with some mail order “minister”…fast forward…get ready for oodles of people line up for annulments in the years to come. Our parish only has 8 or so marriages a year. Do the math. Young people don’t really “bother” with Church weddings. Eventually it becomes important to them.
The trouble with the tribunals is that there are covered up with requests.
Case in point: I had 2 friends desperately seeking annulments. One did the hurry up and wait thing. She waited 15 years.
Paperwork. Red tape. Not enough employees to get the work and investigations done.
That’s what Francis is talking about. Good people are waiting. The process needs to be made more efficient, not the rules bending, as some fear.
