If the Jewish/Christian God already declared His name as one and only YAHWEH, what makes muslims think that they are worshipping him when they call him allah/rahman???

Exodus 3:15 God also said to Moses, "Say this to the Israelites: Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.

Can I say my form teacher is the same as your form teacher whom you know is married with a husband and 3 kids and calls herself Mrs Jones, but I call my teacher Ms Smith and insists she is a spinster with no kids?

I believe “Allah” means The One God, though I’ve also seen it to mean, “The One”. That’s why they call Him Allah. He’s their One God.

Rahman means gracious. As in The Gracious One.

So though the Jews call him YHWH, and Christians call him God, and JWs call him “Jehovah”, we all mean the same God. Note that Christians also call him Lord and The Almighty.

Perhaps a muslim can give the correct and literal translation. But yes, God is the same God of the Jews, the Muslims and the Christians 🙂

Rence, in case you’re not aware, the word allah is declared as the personal name of the islamic entity of worship. Also, there’s another 98 names that the entity claims to be possessing.

We’re talking about NAME…not titles/appointments.

Roman Catholic Christians call Him specifically the Trinity. The Trinity is a fuller understanding of the Old Testament’s “I am Who am.” But is the Trinity the same as Allah? Absolutely not! The false religion of Islam denies the Trinity, hence they deny the essence of God.

The Jews deny the Trinity as well. So by your own statement, the Jews deny the essence of God as well. Wow, I didn’t realize. Here I thought the Jews, Muslims and Christians all worshipped God the Father. Thanks for the enlightenment both of you 👍 What would I do without you to teach me?

Muslims worship the same God as Jews and Christians. *Allah *is simply the Arabic word for ‘God’, it is not the name of a god.

Mosacked has already had his bizarre arguments addressed HERE and HERE, I see no good reason for him to open yet another thread on this topic.

I heard Dave Hunt make a similar argument - he said you couldn’t find Allah in the Hebrew Old Testament. Of course, it would be silly to find an Arabic word in a predominantly Hebrew text. One might as well say the early Christians didn’t worship the Jewish God because they called Him Theos.

There are plenty of arguments that can be backed up by scripture from both Christianity and Islam to show that Muslims do not worship the same God and Christians, however to argue that they do not based on a rendition of a name in a different language is, I’m sorry to say, a tad bit silly.

Please, if you are to argue that the word used as a name is equivalent to a noun, you must use argument to support it. Not make empty claims and hope for people to accept it.

I quote - “Many believe the word “Allah” was derived from the mid- eastern word “el” which in Ugaritic, Caananite and Hebrew can mean a true or false God. This is not the case, “The source of this (Allah) goes back to pre-Muslim times. Allah is not a common name meaning “God” (or a “god”), and the Muslim must use another word or form if he wishes to indicate any other than his own peculiar deity.” (Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics (ed. Hastings), I:326.)”

According to the Encyclopedia of Religion, Allah corresponded to the Babylonian god Baal, and Arabs knew of him long before Mohammed worshipped him as the supreme God. Before Islam the Arabs recognized many gods and goddesses, each tribe had their own deity. There were also nature deities. Allah was the god of the local Quarish tribe, which was Mohammed’s tribe before he invented Islam to lead his people out of their polytheism. Allah was then known as the Moon God, who had 3 daughters who were viewed as intercessors for the people into Allah. Their names were Al-at, Al-uzza, and Al-Manat, which were three goddesses; the first two daughters of Allah had names which were feminine forms of Allah. Hubal was the chief God of the Kaaba among the other 360 deities. Hubal was the chief God of the Kaaba among the other 360 deities. Hubal was a statue likeness of a man whose body was made of red precious stones whose arms were made of gold. (Reference Islam George Braswell Jr.)

“Historians like Vaqqidi have said Allah was actually the chief of the 360 gods being worshipped in Arabia at the time Mohammed rose to prominence. Ibn Al-Kalbi gave 27 names of pre-Islamic deities…Interestingly, not many Muslims want to accept that Allah was already being worshipped at the Ka’ba in Mecca by Arab pagans before Mohammed came. Some Muslims become angry when they are confronted with this fact. But history is not on their side. Pre-Islamic literature has proved this.” (G. J. O. Moshay, Who Is This Allah? (Dorchester House, Bucks, UK, 1994), pg. 138).]

The above is true. And because it is true, muslims are unknowingly admitting that allah is NOT a noun (since they need to use another word or form to refer to another deity other than their own). NObody even says ‘there is no cat but CAT’…ie ‘there is no god but god’. This is BASIC COMMON SENSE. To say there is no god but allah is an open admission that allah is not the noun for the word god.

I cannot help you if you keep repeating your gibberish. You have absolutely no case.

Of course Muslims arew worshipping the same God. By definition, monetheistic religion believe in ONE GOD, so how could it be any other. The Holy Koran described Jesus as the Messiah (3:40-47). It refers to the Torah and the Gospel as true teachings.

You will also find the Trinitarian metaphor used in many Sufi writings, using exactly the Augustinian formula of the Love, the Beloved and the Love.

To say it is not the same God is simply racist propaganda. Christians and Muslims should consider themselves brothers in Faith.

Many, many of them worship the same God as us, yet the rest do not clearly, and the rest, not saying anything at all about it clearly are saying, they support it, for this is the testing ground on this faith, and these are the fruits it’s producing because of it.

Take a road trip with a person of any religion, 2-3 hours is preferred, at the end you typically become friends…that’s human nature at it’s best…

Allah means God in Arabic… Allah has revealed himself through the Qur’an using 99 attributes which is said to be the complete attributes of God Almighty… We believe that Allah revealed himself through the Gospel and the Torah but not completely and Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad (Peace be upon him) by Allah with his complete attributes.

Allah says in the Qur’an, "“…This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.”(5:3)

There is no such verse in any of the scriptures revealed by him… This goes to show that Islam has been a religion that was perfected by God.

These are the verses from the Holy Qur’an that refute the concept of trinity that no Christian I know has been able to explain.

‘The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers the like of whom had passed away before him . . . O people of the Book - stress not in your religion other than the truth, and follow not the vain desires of a people who went astray before you.’ (Surat al-Ma’ida, 75)

‘O people of the Scripture (Christians and Jews)! Do not exaggerate in your religion, nor utter anything concerning God save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of God, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say ‘Three’(trinity). Desist, it will be better for you. God is only One God. . . . The Messiah would never have scorned to be a slave of God.’ (Surat al-Nisa, 171-2)

Odd, but those passages are effectively just stating that Islam believes Christ is just a prophet. Theres nothing in those passages that explicitly refutes Christianities claims.

The Jews deny the Trinity as well.
As do a significant percentage of Christians.

The Catholic Church has stated clearly, and correctly, that Muslims worship the same God as Christians and Jews.

That their Christology is different is not in dispute.

'This is not what Islam believes… This is what Allah says in the Qur’an about trinity and Jesus Peace be upon him… there are also other verses about Christianity… I welcome you to read it f you want…

So why do U have to wait for the catholic church to confirm? Do you not use your intelligence to see what is out there in the world?

Don’t Christians, Jews, and Muslims all say that the true God is the God whom Abraham worshipped?

If that is true, then can we say that Christians, Jews, and Muslims worship the same God, although each group gives Him different names and attributes, or knows Him by different names and attributes which He is supposed to have revealed to men?

The magisteriums teaching is authoritative, therefore making the statement more valid then if it was based on personal opinion.

And in regards to my comments on the verses, I can say that as Muhammad wrote them, and it is part of a muslims role to accept those teachings, making them Islamic dogma if you will. They do not actually discount Christian teachings they simply say they are untrue. How then does Islam actually refute the trinitarian doctrine. All these verses show are that Muhammad simply discounted the Trinity as untrue.

Its like you and i were arguing about a political opponents ideology and simply said that the opposing point of view was wrong and then acted as if it was so without allowing for any discussion on the point.

From the encyclical Summo Iugiter Studio of Pope Gregory XVI in 1832 (my emphasis):
The words of that celebrated disciple of the apostles, martyred St. Ignatius, in his letter to the Philadelphians are relevant to this matter: “Be not deceived, my brother; if anyone follows a schismatic, he will not attain the inheritance of the kingdom of God.” Moreover, St. Augustine and the other African bishops who met in the Council of Cirta in the year 412 explained the same thing at greater length: “Whoever has separated himself from the Catholic Church, no matter how laudably he lives, will not have eternal life, but has earned the anger of God because of this one crime: that he abandoned his union with Christ.” Omitting other appropriate passages which are almost numberless in the writings of the Fathers, We shall praise St. Gregory the Great who expressly testifies that this indeed is the teaching of the Catholic Church. He says: “The holy universal Church teaches that it is not possible to worship God truly except in her and asserts that all who are outside of her will not be saved.” Official acts of the Church proclaim the same dogma. Thus, in the decree on faith which Innocent III published with the synod of Lateran IV, these things are written: “There is one universal Church of all the faithful outside of which no one is saved.”
Many, many of them worship the same God as us, yet the rest do not clearly, and the rest, not saying anything at all about it clearly are saying, they support it, for this is the testing ground on this faith, and these are the fruits it’s producing because of it.
No! Only Catholics worship the objectively real God, the Trinity. Pope St. Pius X’s encyclical against Modernism, Pascendi, shows how the modern belief to the contrary originates:
[G]iven this doctrine of experience experience of the individual" “that surpasses all rational experience” and “which, when a person acquires it, makes him properly and truly a believer”] united with the other doctrine of symbolism The representations of the divine reality are symbolical"], every religion, even that of paganism, must be held to be true. What is to prevent such experiences from being met within every religion? In fact that they are to be found is asserted by not a few. And with what right will Modernists deny the truth of an experience affirmed by a follower of Islam? With what right can they claim true experiences for Catholics alone? Indeed Modernists do not deny but actually admit, some confusedly, others in the most open manner, that all religions are true.
Take a road trip with a person of any religion, 2-3 hours is preferred, at the end you typically become friends…that’s human nature at it’s best…
Some of the Israelites and Egyptians before the Exodus got along well, too, but they clearly worshiped different gods, the Israelites worshiping the objectively real God and the Egyptians worshiping false, made-up gods.

From St. Thomas Aquinas’s Summa Contra Gentiles, he shows that Islam is a false religion:
**Chapter 6: THAT IT IS NOT A MARK OF LEVITY TO ASSENT TO THE THINGS THAT ARE OF FAITH, ALTHOUGH THEY ARE ABOVE REASON
**
p 11Now those who believe this truth, of which reason affords a proof, S. Greg. the Great: Hom. in Ev. ii. 26. believe not lightly, as though following foolish Vulg., cunningly devised (doctas. S. Thomas read indoctas.). fables (2 Pet. i. 16). For divine Wisdom Himself, Who knows all things most fully, deigned to reveal to man the secrets of God’s wisdom: Job xi. 6. and by suitable arguments proves His presence, and the truth of His doctrine and inspiration, by performing works surpassing the capability of the whole of nature, namely, the wondrous healing of the sick, the raising of the dead to life, a marvellous control over the heavenly bodies, and what excites yet more wonder, the inspiration of human minds, so that unlettered and simple persons are filled with the Holy Ghost, and in one instant are endowed with the most sublime wisdom and eloquence. And after considering these arguments, convinced by the strength of the proof, and not by the force of arms, nor by the promise of delights, but—and this is the greatest marvel of all—amidst the tyranny of persecutions, a countless crowd of not only simple but also of the wisest men, embraced the Christian faith, which inculcates things surpassing all human understanding, curbs the pleasures of the flesh, and teaches contempt of all worldly things. That the minds of mortal beings should assent to such things, is both the greatest of miracles, and the evident work of divine inspiration, seeing that they despise visible things and desire only those that are invisible. And that this happened not suddenly nor by chance, but by the disposition of God, is shown by the fact that God foretold that He would do so by the manifold oracles of the prophets, whose books we hold in veneration as bearing witness to our faith. This particular kind of proof is alluded to in the words of Heb. ii. 3, 4: Which, namely the salvation of mankind, having begun to be declared by the Lord, was confirmed with us by them that heard Him, God also bearing witness by signs and wonders, and divers Vulg., divers miracles and distributions . . . distributions of the Holy Ghost.
p 12 Now such a wondrous conversion of the world to the Christian faith is a most indubitable proof that such signs did take place, so that there is no need to repeat them, seeing that there is evidence of them in their result. For it would be the most wondrous sign of all if without any wondrous signs the world were persuaded by simple and lowly men to believe things so arduous, to accomplish things so difficult, and to hope for things so sublime. Although God ceases not even in our time to work miracles through His saints in confirmation of the faith.
p 13 On the other hand those who introduced the errors of the sects proceeded in contrary fashion, as instanced by Mohammed, who enticed peoples with the promise of carnal pleasures, to the desire of which the concupiscence of the flesh instigates. He also delivered commandments in keeping with his promises, by giving the reins to carnal pleasure, wherein it is easy for carnal men to obey: and the lessons of truth which he inculcated were only such as can be easily known to any man of average wisdom by his natural powers: yea rather the truths which he taught were mingled by him with many fables and most false doctrines. Nor did he add any signs of supernatural agency, which alone are a fitting witness to divine inspiration, since a visible work that can be from God alone, proves the teacher of truth to be invisibly inspired: but he asserted that he was sent in the power of arms, a sign that is not lacking even to robbers and tyrants. Again, those who believed in him from the outset were not wise men practised in things divine and human, but beastlike men who dwelt in the wilds, utterly ignorant of all divine teaching; and it was by a multitude of such men and the force of arms that he compelled others to submit to his law.
p 13 Lastly, no divine oracles of prophets in a previous age bore witness to him; rather did he corrupt almost all the teaching of the Old and New Testaments by a narrative replete with fables, as one may see by a perusal of his law. Hence by a cunning device, he did not commit the reading of the Old and New Testament Books to his followers, lest he should thereby be convicted of falsehood. Thus it is evident that those who believe his words believe lightly.
