Are our souls still busy while our brains and bodies sleep??

Have any Catholic theologians or thinkers down through the centuries offered opinions on what our souls do while our brains are asleep?
Thinking of dreams in the bible, specifically the dreams of the mighty St. Joseph, the Terror of Demons, I would expect that our souls never sleep -- that they are simply disconnected from our earthly behaviours as we sleep. But God still can communicate with us using our dreams on occassion.

Dreams are involuntary by their very nature. I would not recommend trying to find any deeper meaning in them than that.
Oh no, I would never try to find a deeper meaning to dreams. I am merely curious as to whether or not Catholic thinkers have said anything about what our souls generally do when our brains are sleeping. Thanks for your response H.D.

If the soul is where our consciousness resides, then it is not present for a dream.
That said...

I tend to think of the soul as just another part of me.
So it is likely doing the same thing everything else is doing while I sleep.
Not much, except perhaps keeping our body alive.

Then how can any form of consciousness be? If not present for a dream how did the dream get received?

Explains the lack of evidence of Christ consciousness. If you knew it was a part of Christ, you would treat it as such. Since you don't, you treat others with guile.

Best example of the 5 foolish virgins who fell asleep Matthew 25:3-5-;Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

Probably explains your lack of vision. Better stay in your box and leave the meaningful dreaming to the children of God. If this is what being Catholic offers, you are the most unstimulating, boring group of people. Glad I trust in the Lord and lean not on my own understanding.

Acts 2:17 …16No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 In the last days, God says, I will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18Even on My menservants and maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.…

Unless a deeper meaning finds you in them. Wow! Let me see, no prophecy, no new doctrine, no thinking outside of the box. No dreaming, no kindness, no Christian Charity only boring old milk toast. I hope you are not trying to be the poster child for admittance into your denomination. It's like no one shook off the old man. It really has become like a geriatric wing of Christ's branches. No wonder why scripture says this-
John 15:

The True Vine

15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2;Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean ( Me) because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
Funny, that seems to contradict your "Church" first narrative.

“I am the vine
, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 ;If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

I'm told nothing I post rises to scripture. Point is this is an event that happens BEFORE THE HARVEST AT THE END OF THIS AGE. And historically it has never happened no documentation of that. So, that means it will. And you are a branch no longer in Christ. The fact, you make no new fruit is a pretty good indicator. Tried to be helpful. You all prove to be foolish. Between your passive aggressive slights and your wily women who are derailed, it is clear I am on the right path.
God will take his shears and prune away the branches
Isaiah 18:
…4For this is what the LORD has told me: “I will quietly look on from My dwelling place, like shimmering heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.” 5For before the harvest, when the blossom is gone and the flower becomes a ripening grape, He will cut off the shoots with a pruning knife and remove and discard the branches. 6They will all be left to the mountain birds of prey, and to the beasts of the land. The birds will feed on them in summer, and all the wild animals in winter.

I'll take my work and simply watch and will remember you all when MOTHER MARY'S prophecies regarding you- "Rome will be destroyed, clergy of all rank will be pierced with arrows and bullets" ". They will hand the harlot over, they will burn her with fire, and her flesh will be eaten" (which aligns with what Mother Mary said. Your popes, bishops Cardinals and priest aren't telling you that! And the outrage over some perceived vile I spoke of Mother Mary....Please! None of you even believe her. You don't even heed her warnings. That means you don't even honor her. Prophecy says what it does, God's children have dreams and visions and you all sleep on it). The only one who has shown any love has been me. I tried to tell you. God's will be done!

New Age/occult interpretation of dreams is obviously hostile to Christ, but what is the harm in psychological interpretation which shows one's hidden fears and desires?

Why does the Church not allow the scattering of ashes?
Quote from an article about Catholic cremation practices from 2016:

The Catholic Church and Cremation

"In Christian cultures, especially the Roman Catholic Church, burial was preferred to cremation as is evidenced by the Roman catacombs and relics of saints who have been preserved for generations. In the second century, Marcus Minucius Felix, an early Latin apologist, disputed the idea that cremation interfered with the resurrection. It wasn't until the mid-1800s that the Catholic Church forbade cremation. It was because some groups advocated for cremation as a way of rejecting the resurrection. The Catholic Church prohibited cremation until the 1960s.

"The recent announcement from the Vatican does not prohibit cremation. The Holy See wanted to clear up guidelines about how to store the ashes of the body following a cremation. "According to new guidelines from the Vatican's doctrinal office, cremated remains should be kept in a 'sacred place' such as a church cemetery. Ashes should not be divided up between family members, 'nor may they be preserved in mementos, pieces of jewelry or other objects.'"

"Many families choose cremation out of an economical or environmental position today. The Pope agrees that cremation is a viable option. However, the ashes of the body should not be scattered about. The bishop can give permission to keep the ashes at home. Roman Catholics will have to make these decisions for themselves and their family members."

DaveBj again--This was of particular interest to me, given that two months ago I underwent the surgical removal of my complete right leg, as well as part of the pelvis, in order to remove a condro-sarcoma tumor that was basically turning my upper femur into styrofoam (two fractures in the course of four months). There was a question about the disposal of the leg, and I chose to have it cremated, with the ashes to be placed in my coffin when the rest of me is buried. The urn is currently in a transportation container in a place of honor in our living room.
