Are Subdeacons "Ordained"?

I heard there is a difference between Greeks and Slavs in this regard. Greeks can still marry when ordained as a subdeacon, but that is not the tradition of the Slavic Churches. I got this info from a friend who is being ordained a subdeacon in the Melkite Church, and he is very much interested in getting married but today he is not.

I hope he has interpreted the church law of his community correctly then!

I just received my second copy of Catholic Answers magazine.

Anyway, in the “Letters” section someone wanted to know why no one from the Catholic Answers staff commented on a letter titled, “Should Married Deacons be Celibate”?

Tim Ryland, responded that:

"Neither Vatican II’s call for the diaconate “to be restored as a proper and permanent rank of the hierarchy” (Lumen Gentium, 29), nor Pope Paul VI’s 1967 motu proprio Sacrum Diaconatus Ordinem, which authorized the admission of married men to the diaconate, addressed the issue of celibacy.

Canon law binds all clerics in the Western Church to ‘perfect and perpetual’ continence for the sake of the kingdom’ (c. 277, 1). Obviously, this requirement has not been enforced in regard to married permanent deacons. But this blurring of the lines of clerical celibacy is troubling to some. Should the non-enforcement of a key Church discipline be allowed to continue?".
