Thats why men and women are instructed tio cover
Modesty does not absolutely require that one swath oneself in four or more yards of fabric.

Women are not sex objects. Your religion has seen women as sex objects. Women are just people. We can dress the way we want to without being afraid of men get horny.

= “O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested.” 33:59=

STILL, wearing hijab doesnt make women smarter and understand what hijab really is. In my country they wearing hijab with tight shirts where the curves of your body really obvious to see by people… wearing jeans britneyspears looks like (hipster) or get caught on the tape having sex in the amusement park with her bf :o:eek: what a shame!!
peace cute

those women that you are talking about DO NOT wear hijab. They just cover their hair…there is a huge difference.

True sister Faith,

many non muslims and even non practicing musloims understand Hijab as a head covering . Hijab is a commandement of modesty. Part of it is covering your hair. Just part of it . But because its the most noticable people thought that the head covering is the Hijab.

Peace

I still dont see the huge difference here. If you mean Hijab is to cover all over your body with yards of fabrics? then I could say here that is stupidity. Even worse than only covering your hair… Incredible… even HAIR must be covered… I dont know any men could be so horny when seeing women’s hair (well maybe some:o but can’t consider as absolute decision) . Women can dress up as long as it is not provocative. Hijab is the badge of stupidity. If you are proud of it, it tells alot about your intelligence.

That’s more or less how I feel about it.

It’s as though they’re saying that if a woman isn’t muffled up like mummy, then they can’t help themselves (as one Muslim on trial for rape in Sweden actually claimed as his defense, and got away with it).

That’s terrible. Do you have a link to that by any chance? Sweden is a terrible country to begin with though… there is so much bestiality there that 1 in 20 of all animals brought to the vet were victims of “sexual assault”! Homosexual activity and bestiality have been legal there since 1944.

I made a mistake- it was Norway, not Sweden, but never mind.

It’s taken from fjordman.blogspot.com/

Here’s what was said.

In Denmark and Norway, between 65% and 70% of all rapes are committed by Muslims, who as yet still less than 5% of the population. One local judge in Norway actually exonerated one rapist by accepting his defense that the victim’s dress was taken by him to mean that she was egging him on. Her dress was nothing special to Norwegians, but the judge found it to be unbearably provocative to this poor Muslim immigrant. A curious argument, is it not? Even if she had been dressed a la Gisele Bundchen doing a shoot for Victoria’s Secret – and she of course was not – rape is not an acceptable response.

I think you have muddled the point of modesty. Sure we can wear what ever we want but should we? Where is your respect for your body - clearly if you wore some of the clothing women are strolling about in, then modesty is lacking. Flesh is in.
Gosh, have you taken a serious look around at the young women’s fashions lately?

As a female - I tend to disagree with your statement. Women should dress modestly so as not to be an occasion of sin for men. Dressing modestly does not equate to dowdy or matronly. One can dress fashionably, show off her figure, while being mindful of not exposing herself ( cleavage, thighs, stomach).

If God didn’t want women to be seen, why did he have to make them so darned beauty-ful? :whacky:

But yeah, seriously, women should still be modest. I just don’t tend think of their hair as a “private” part.

Oh stop now. We don’t need to be “seen” by the whole world. Sheesh! Just a spouse. 😛

First of all my name is not Shirley. ( could’t pass that one up - sorry)

no. I am with you there on the hair as I have long hair. OK we agree! 😉

you said some pretty offensive stuff there…so i’ll try to filter that out…and respond to what you say

Hijab is part of a person’s external modesty. Women are supposed to wear loose fitting, non-see through clothing that covers their entire body, as well as their hair. We do it because we believe it is a commandment from God.

If we asked everyone on this forum to give their definition of “modest clothing” i gurantee that we will have as many different responses as their are people. Not only that, but the whole concept of external modesty has changed drastically over just the past century! What people think is completly normal to show on a hot summer day today, was what prostitues wore 50 years ago. Why then would I look to YOUR opinion or even my own to mandate how I should appear in public?

Alhamdulilah, Allah has told us what is good for us. we can obey or we can disobey, that’s where our free will comes in.

i find that extremely hard to believe…but these days, people believe whatever fits their agenda.

in any case, there is no excuse for rape. Muslim men (and women) are supposed to lower their gaze and refrain from all kinds of physical contact with the opposite sex (unless ofcourse through marriage).

If the virgin Mary (may God be pleased with her) was here, would you have something against her head covering? would you tell her that that is a little too much modesty…hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Note the use of the word “Muslim” in the above quoted sentence.

It seems to be accepted that non-Muslim women are outside of the rules.

The Virgin Mary is also the Immaculate Conception (sinless), and clearly a unique case.

To look at the issue from another point of view, no one that I’ve heard of has ever suggested that Catholic men clothe themselves as Christ did, a mode of dress that really, came into being because it was practical for the climate. Temperate Europe and North America are quite a different matter.

Try to keep in mind that some of us find what you have to say offensive. The knife cuts both ways.

If a woman walks naked in the street then thats still not an excuse for rape . Rape can be punished in Islam through crusifixtion. i wish they apply the punishment and rid us hopefuylly of every dirty guy . This will deliver quite a message for wanna be rapists.

peace

Well, I’m glad to hear that you think so, but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like a lot of your co-religionists agree.😦

Really, I’d prefer if some other form of execution were employed. You understand, of course.

Please dont equate my religion with rape. It happens all over. You judge a faith by what it preaches and not what its followers do .If we judge christianity by christians then its really over !!

Peace
