Are there any catholic virgins left?

The secular dating scene looks down on virginity AND virtue at the same time.
Catholics should not have anything to do with the secular dating scene anyway, so that should be of no concern whatsoever to a Catholic. It’s a parallel universe.

It may seem frustrating, but you are only approaching your 20’s. Keep looking. If you are meant to marry, you will find the right person. Keep an open mind, too, though. Don’t automatically discount someone just because he (or she, if you are a man) has had sex before. It may just be that your future spouse has made that particular mistake and repented of it. And even if you meant you are approaching your 4th decade (your 30’s), the above advice still holds.
And to answer your title question: yes, there are still Catholic virgins. We just have not committed that one particular sin. Don’t make virginity your only standard. It is a good one, and it may be a deal breaker depending on the total character of the potential spouse, but it should not be the one and only thing that determines whether you discern marriage or not with a particular person.
Thank you Judy for your encouragement.

That’s true. But, how do we Christianize it?

You don’t. It is a fundamentally flawed model. You find a Christian spouse simply by being a Christian and living in the Church according to your state in life.
I thought that we should invade the dating scene and give it a Catholic putsch. 🙂

I completely disagree. It is a model designed by hedonists in order to fuel their hedonism. It is opposed at its root to Christian thought.

There goes my plans.

As far as virginity goes, to me, it’s a deal maker.

I’m a virgin, and society hates people like me!
Stay strong… the world does not hate people like you. It does not understand you and it fears you… that is a nuance that is often overlooked. Take the positive approach and assume good intent… It’s better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

I’m saving myself for marriage.

So I’m reaching my third decade in life where I’m wondering whether my life ahead is to stay celibate forever or just keep waiting for the right person.

Wondering if anybody else is in this position?

To paraphrase an oldie but goody…
“There’s one born every minute”

Point taken. Thanks. 🙂

I honestly have no idea how that would work. I’ve heard of societies where marriages are arranged, where people go on dates to get to know people before commiting, and where people commit a little and then decide whether they like the person. Also where people forgo commitment and just have sex with whoever. I’ve even heard of societies where women were stolen from neighboring tribes to be the wives of warriors. I have never, however, heard of a society where marriages just sort of happen without any search whatsoever. 🤷

Obviously, some of these methods work better than others.

To the OP- of course there are Catholic virgins in the world. Many. 👍

Yes, I’m also a Catholic virgin reaching my third decade in life but I’m not stressing too much about when I’m going to meet the right person to marry or if I’m going to be celibate forever. However, if it’s bothering you a lot, then pray about it and ask God to help you find the right person for you… if that’s His will. 🙂

Then sorry to tell you that your third decade has already passed you by.
Wow, I know time is flying by for me, but having three decades pass you by before you even get to that date, well I can’t top that 😃

Yes, I accidentally somehow let it slip in a conversation and their reaction was one of shock. I wasn’t sure how to react to it, .
This is what I will NEVER understand. If some lets their close friends know they are a practicing Catholic, it goes without saying if they are single they are a virgin (or perhaps a sinner who went to confessions and decided to repent). So… How can you ‘Let it slip’. By being a witness to Christ you have already indirectly told them every second of your life

So, how do I handle it? (and I am in the middle of my fifth decade) Easy, I take the cross around my neck, hold it up in full view and proudly say ‘This is not a fashion statement. I am proud God has given me the strength to do His will’

Physically yeah but I make no claim to be free of any mortal sin under the sixth, in fact I’d be surprised if it turned out so. And all those sins start in the heart (Matt 5:28).

I’m not sure of this but I suspect it’s possible for someone ignorant enough to commit fornication without incurring a mortal sin (don’t quote me and I haven’t done enough research to preclude some old official teaching or highly respected theologian saying something about the subject), while it’s definitely possible to sin mortally against the sixth without doing anything externally. So I don’t think people should be singled out that much for an externally completed act.

Cut some slack to those who have reformed. Each of us needs to reform, if not from anything to do with the sixth then with some other of the ten anyway, barring the holiest people perhaps. God heals through Reconciliation and other sacraments.

To be fair, the OP never said “the right person” necessarily has to be a virgin.

True. Sorry for jumping to conclusions.
It’s an easy one to jump to given the title of the thread, but I’m pretty sure he’s asking if there is anyone who, like him, is a Catholic virgin, as opposed to asking if there is a Catholic virgin out there for him to marry.

I didn’t say there is no search. I said that “the dating scene” is not an appropriate model for Christians. There are at least 10 couples that I can think of off the top of my head who met at the Newman Center at my college. They were all students, they went to Mass, they spent time studying, socializing and praying together, and a whole bunch of them paired off naturally. They weren’t going out hunting for fresh meat, they were being Catholic together, kindling friendships and bonds of love, and less than 15 years later, 50+ new Catholic children are here.
