Are there any countries (apart from Vatican City) where the Mass is celebrated in their embassy buildings overseas, particularly in countries like China and Saudi Arabia where the Church is persecuted?
I hear that there is only one priest in Saudi Arabia, and he only flies in for each Sunday’s Mass, which is only celebrated in the U.S. embassy. The Catholic Mass and alcohol are banned in the Kingdom, and their weekends are Thursday and Friday. Even so over 300 Catholics meet in the U.S. embassy to celebrate Mass each week.
This should give us pause to reflect with gratitude that we are able to receive the Lord every day without hinderance.
In Indonesia, the nuncio has his own “community” of 150-200 people who have their mass in the nunciature(Vatican embassy). It consists of a mix between locals and foreigners. This situation, I think is rather interesting to note here.
