Mohammedanism or less commonly Muhammadanism \ mō-ˈha-mə-də-ˌni-zəm , -ˈhä- also mü- \ noun, dated, often offensive
Yes. There are many “valid terms” to describe things that are offensive to one and perhaps normal to another. If something might be offensive to another, why use it? Especially in light of this:

“32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

Notice the preface, often…not always.

If your in a conversation and using it in a hurtful or provocative way, then yes.

As and Eng. Lit. major and an older individual I get very tired of the hijacking of our language, the Orwellian doublespeak, the creation of new terms to define an already existing one but done to impute the character and feigned outrage of using words that may offend somebody.

We were never promised a rose garden nor were we promised that we would never be offended.

I am in violent agreement with you - in general. However, in the context of responding to our Lord’s call to “make disciples of all men…” (and the Holy Father’s to respect other religions), me thinks we make the job a wee bit more difficult when we use terms that might be offensive to describe that which is sacred to them.

(English Lit? I am impressed! If I find a magic lamp one day and get 3 wishes, one of them would be to have a love - a true love - of literature. No matter how many times I read Faulkner and try to love it, for the life of me I just can’t 😦 )

If I use the term, for me personally I am not viewing them as my enemy. I do not view Islam as my personal enemy.

Perhaps if I was alive in the year In AD 642 when Alexandria was captured by the Muslim army of 'Amr ibn al-'As and several later Arabic sources describe the library’s destruction by the order of Caliph Omar…I might have uttered the word in a pejorative manner and I would have lost my head…same as if I was alive around 48 BC I would have probably been a human torch for the emperor of Rome when Julius Caesar laid waste to many works in the Library…

But then again I am an orthodox bibliophile 🤓

In all seriousness so much history was lost in the destruction of so many various works…probably a lot about Christ was destroyed…

It’s okay. No one is judging you by what I say. You can relax.
