Yeah, the question is intended to sound a little funny and jar us a bit, but the point the author is making is a valid one. I don’t think he/she is thinking we will have 72 hamburgers waiting for us in heaven or anything. Scripture does use words like “There are many mansions in my Father’s kingdom” There probably aren’t physical mansions in heaven like on Earth, but the point was that we will have everything we ever yearned for by being in the presence and glory of God.
I really don’t care how much atheists laugh at me, they don’t need a question like this to laugh at. There were people who laughted at, mocked and spit at Christ beaten and bloody as he carried His cross, and many people continue to do so. They just don’t realize they are doing it to Jesus when they do it to the least of His people.
I don’t think you understand the point of the question. Yes, the writer uses hamburgers because it sounds funny, but the point is whether we will need or want to eat in the afterlife. Will we need or want to eat when our glorified bodies have risen? Furthermore, will we want or be permitted to experience other physical pleasures (which in this world sometimes lead to vices because people become addicted to the momentary bliss of eating, drinking, sex, adrenaline etc, thinking it will make them happy) Probably not, because we will be in the glory of God and that will make us eternally happy, we will not feel the need for anything but God. Only God knows for sure, but it is only human to ponder what the afterlife will be like, it is just a part of yearning for God… to know Him and love Him. How many of us have wondered about our loved pets, especially as children. It’s as dumb as believing if I blow myself up in the middle of a bus killing everyone, I’ll go to Heaven and enjoy 72 virgins!Code:
Dumb, dumb, dumb! No wonder some atheists laugh at believers!
