Are there modern prophets?

Btw, the point made by some others, that any priest qualifies to fulfill the role of prophet, is inadequate and therefore misleading. A priest is gifted in certain ways, yes, but to claim that any and all of them are pretty much the equals of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus himself, is silly. They certainly are not, and that’s born out both in practice as well as by the Church’s organization. With regard to practice, plenty of priests unfortunately say theologically indefensible things from the ambo, in the confessional, or during informal talks. And with regard to the Church’s organization, a priest is not a member of the magisterium and therefore does not have the right to disseminate his own theological views – which is pretty much precisely what a prophet does. So no, one cannot substitute any old parish priest for a prophet.

Of course there are !

28 And in the church God has given a place first to apostles,
second to prophets, and third to teachers.
Then God has given a place to those who do miracles,
those who have gifts of healing, those who can help others,
those who are able to lead, and those who can speak in different kinds of languages.

29 Not all are apostles. Not all are prophets.
Not all are teachers. Not all do miracles.
30 Not all have gifts of healing. Not all speak in different kinds of languages.
Not all interpret those languages.
31 Continue to give your attention to the spiritual gifts you consider to be the greatest.

Good point. I know the Church says there is no new Revelation. But a prophet doesn’t have to be someone who brings new revelation about Faith and Morals, and even many of the OT Prophets, the great majority of the time, didn’t reveal anything the Israelite religion didn’t already teach. They often just proclaimed the concrete implications of it, or the specific things God wanted from those particular people in that particular time, and the signs, wonders, and knowledge of the future were there to confirm their authenticity to do so, that it wasn’t just a random private opinion. There is nothing in this role that contradicts the age of the New Covenant. In fact, mystics in the Church have reputedly done very similarly: Bolstered their preaching and urgings with signs and wonders, and mystical knowledge of things they “shouldn’t know” which God gave them to confirm their message–not a new revelation, but a specific application of the revelation that has already been delivered–and their mission.
