I was looking for the church’s response on Prophecy and I was focused on an interpretation of a prophecy of a prophecy of King Edward the Confessor. The interpretation was that after the Reformation in the sixteenth century.

`The extreme corruption and wickedness of the English nation has provoked the just anger of God. When malice shall have reached the fulness of its measure, God will, in His wrath, send to the English people wicked spirits, who will punish and afflict them with great severity, by separating the green tree from its parent stem the length of three furlongs. But at last this same tree, through the compassionate mercy of God, and without any national (governmental) assistance, shall return to its original root, reflourish and bear abundant fruit.’

The interpretation given to this prophecy is remarkable when applied to the events which have happened. The spirits mentioned in it were the Protestant innovators who pretended, in the sixteenth century, to reform the Catholic Church in England. The severance of the green tree from its trunk signifies the separation of the English Church from the root of the Catholic Church, from the Holy Roman See. This tree, however, was to be separated from its life-giving root the distance of “three furlongs”. These three furlongs are understood to signify three centuries, at the end of which England would again be reunited to the Catholic Church, and bring forth flowers of virtue and fruits of sanctity. -Prophecy | Catholic Answers

were protestants coming back to the faith ever since the nineteenth century? if fact are protestants in Britain coming back to the catholic church?

A lot of conservative, ‘high church’ Anglicans and Episcopals are coming back, as the CofE has become rather entangled in leftist political progressivism.

Not to mention John Henry Cardinal Newman, Monsignor Ronald A. Knox and innumerable others.

Do you believe the same phenomena is happening within American mainline churches (American Episcopalians, Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians)?

Yes, I think protestants are going to increasingly come back to the Church as Protestantism becomes more unrecognizable the more time that passes since the rupture that took place in the 16th century, and it won’t just be in England. People like Cardinal Newman and Chesterton were tentpoles but there are going to be many more.

To an extent… as the mainline Protestants go further and further into the liberal weeds, those who see there’s something wrong are coming either to us or the Evangelicals.

The mainline Protestant churches have all gone off the deep end. There are segments of them (LCMS, ACNA) that haven’t lost it completely, yet. But they are the minority. The bulk of organized, episcopal Protestantism is too far gone.

i am a protesstant coming to the Catholic church. been to three masses and realized i was a heretic

After the Catholic relief act of 1829, the number of Catholics in England went from a few tens of thousands at most to 10% of the population almost immediately due to conversions and Irish immigration. The Catholic episcopacy was restored to England in 1850 by Pope Pius XI, noting:
Considering the actual condition of Catholicism in England, reflecting on the considerable number of the Catholics, a number every day augmenting, and remarking how from day to day the obstacles become removed which chiefly opposed the propagation of the Catholic religion, We perceived that the time had arrived for restoring in England the ordinary form of ecclesiastical government, as freely constituted in other nations, where no particular cause necessitates the ministry of Vicars Apostolic.

So many Anglicans have asked to be received into the Church that the Holy Father has set up an ordinaiate for them.
Does anyone have any numbers on this? I know it was expected that thousands, as individuals as well as whole parishes, would join. I believe that has not been the case.

On the other side of that, my Episcopal parish and Diocese has many converts from Catholicism, including former RCC priests. The door swings both ways.

As a Catholic I very much want this to be true, but the skeptic in me thinks it’s not much more than wishful thinking coupled with confirmation bias.

Concerning this prophetic “green tree returning to its root”, I’d say wake me up when the Queen is Catholic.

Hopefully it will become more frequent. However, there are sadly far more leaving than entering or reverting. We have a lot of praying to do.

Some of the studies say that in the US, only 20% of those who were baptized Catholic attend Mass even once or twice a year. And I believe those numbers are due to immigrants from Mexico and Central America. In Europe, it is a fraction of that.

It might be worse if you account for the number who won’t be around in the next couple of years and then their kids who have already left the Church but go to appease their parents.

A good chunk who attend aren’t Catholic in faith or even practice – just via baptism and Mass attendance. The Church is smaller than the numbers suggest.

The Church Militant is, I believe, experiencing a purification. I think it highly likely it will get smaller. I feel impressed often to pray for Catholics to embrace with humility the reality of a Church with reduced worldly influence and coming to grips with the secular age. It is going to be very hard at times.
But prayer, faithfulness to the Sacraments, sacrifices and genuine love of our fellow humans has always been the life of a Christian, and that isn’t going to change. Spoken as a former Protestant.

I really admire sincere believers who search for the truth and reach out to Catholicism. I think it is much, much easier today to just admit defeat and live a comfortable secular life as an agnostic. That’s most of the people I know.

What specifically in the mass allowed that to happen for you, given where you came from?
