DQuin << Of course the majority of people who play games are not going to go out and kill but the fact that your playing a violent video game while GOD does not like violence is puzzling. >>

New idea for 3D Catholic video game: JOSHUA.

You are Joshua, and you similate all the killing, murdering, and wiping out of civilizations in the Old Testament as commanded by God. It will have spies, prostitutes, soldiers, prophets, guns (ok maybe not guns), swords, and camels.

Just kidding!!! Or am I???

Summary

After the death of Moses, God calls on Joshua to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River and take possession of the promised land. God guarantees victory in the military campaign and vows never to leave the Israelites so long as they obey his laws. The people swear their allegiance to Joshua, and he sends two spies across the river to investigate the territory. The men enter Jericho, where a prostitute named Rahab hides them in her home and lies to the city officials regarding the spies’ presence. Rahab tells the spies that the Canaanites are afraid of Israel and its miraculous successes. Professing belief in the God of the Israelites, she asks for protection for her family when the Israelites destroy Jericho. The spies pledge to preserve Rahab and return to Joshua, telling him of the weakened condition of Israel’s enemies.

The Israelites cross the Jordan River, led by a team of priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant. As the priests enter the water, the flow of the river stops and the Israelites cross the river on dry land. Arriving on the other side, the Israelites commemorate the miracle with an altar of twelve stones from the river bed (representing the twelve tribes of Israel). The people begin to eat the produce of the new land – thus halting the daily supply of manna – and the Israelite men perform the ritual of circumcision in preparation for battle.

Approaching Jericho, Joshua encounters a mysterious man who explains that he is the commander of God’s army but that he is neither for nor against Israel. Joshua pays homage to the man and passes on. Following divine instructions, Joshua leads the Israelites in carrying the Ark around Jericho for six days. On the seventh day, the Israelites march around the city seven times. Joshua rallies them to conquer the city and kill everyone except for Rahab. They are to refrain from taking any of the city’s religious items. At the sound of the Israelite war cry, the walls of Jericho collapse, and the Israelites destroy the city and its inhabitants.

Now that’s a video game idea if I ever smelled one! Who wants to get started on designing the 3D models? Send me your resume. 😃

When I was very young my uncle went though a Christian conversion and began to hate most of the video games I was playing. He ended up buying me this game called Exodus where Moses was actually a playable charactor.

Ah ha, you see I am onto something. 😃 You can choose to follow the OT story as is, or in GTA style, deviate from the story. Priests, prophets, prostitutes, swords, soldiers, spies, camels, I’m gonna need a lot of 3D models, thanks.

i play nethack, the object of the game is to figure out the object of the game. been playing ofr years off and on and i am not doing too well. however it does get interesting.

I don’t know how anyone could say that Pac-Man was evil. But I could see how someone could object to Grand Theft Auto.

I think video games are like music. Some are divine, some are neutral, and some are evil.

I play video games. Red Alert II (Yuri’s Revenge) and Homeworld II. I wouldn’t mind if Our Lord “caught” me playing either.

PONG is of the DEVIL, a Flash “movie” documenting the horrors

Grand Theft Pope: Vatican City the sedevacantist game, yes totally satanic and 100% heretical.

I am working on 3D Tennis now, don’t have the 3D modeling thing figured out, I’m gonna use stick figures to start. But I am “hiring” 3D artists proficient in Maya or 3D Studio or TrueSpace/GameSpace. Who’s with me? Let’s make a Catholic video game when I get the 3D “world geometry” figured out.

I voted No since the only game I’m obsessed with now is TopSpin for Xbox. Only game I can play more than 10 minutes without being bored. A glorified “pong.” Never been much into playing them, but making them yes.

Actually you can use the Neverwinter Nights Toolset to create a game mod using any theme you want. I am currently playing a user created mod right now set in 12th century Europe. My PC started as a simple farmer and is now a Knight of the Chalice and on his way to Africa and the Holy Land to fight Moors and Saracens and all manner of heretics.

**Does anyone know about any pro-Catholic video games? (despite The Lord of the Rings 😃 ) It would be nice if there were more and playable online. It would be cool if there were a Catholic Role Playing game, that also has online capabilities. **

Neverwinter Nights yeah? Tell me about this in private, educate me. I was out of video games for most of the 1990s, trying to re-learn everything from scratch the past few years. I subscribe to some mags, but I don’t know enough about what’s out there. I would like to make some Catholic video games that puts the GTA franchise out of business. 😃

I found a strategy Game POPE WARS and I found Superpope Flash Anime

I see most of you don’t believe it is a sin. But we can all agree that the very bad games are sinful. and violence is bad

I like video games. But I think some are very evil.

In many games you have to kill (virtual) people - including spy and war games.

I find this a fuzzy borderline because some strategy games like Age of Empires involve killing lots of pixel men, but in a non-realistic manner. Others are far more realistic and involve you sniping down a gun barrel and shooting very realistic people in the head and elsewhere.

It is the realistic games that are the greater danger, because, despite what the industry experts might say, they DO get you used to the idea and the feel of killing people. I avoid these.

Worse are the almost demonic games like Manhunt, Hitman, Legacy of Kain and others which encourage you to kill and murder without restraint. Some of these have already been connected with real-life killings.

I know games affect you, because I played Morrowind for a long while, and in it if you have no money, you go into someones house and steal. I was walking along the street, found I had no money with me, and my first thought was “what can I pick up round here?”

I was quite shocked at how naturally the thought came to me - but I’d been doing it for hours in this game, and the thought pattern had transferred to real life!

Oh My Gosh, that’s NOTHING compared to what I’ve uncovered from the game Zero Wing, in which we find that CATS has declared that “All Your Base Are Belong To Us!”

And somebody has set us up the bomb! For the absolute horror of it all, see this site (click the “All Your Base” logo). Heed the warnings, and proceed at your own risk!

Oh yeah I started seeing that a couple years ago, I didn’t understand until I looked up the origin of the phrase. Seems the Japanese are bad translators of video games. That was after my era, I am circa Pacman, Asteroids, Battlezone early 80s but hope to catch up.

Personally, I don’t play video games (I’m just not of that generation - I did play ‘ping-pong’ as a video game in a bowling alley in my early 40’s I think) however I have a much younger sister with a son and husband who both play video games and as I have sat and watched for some time and there are a number of games that they play in which to win the game, you must sin - steal, murder, etc.

Now I realize that this is not ‘real’ sin - no ‘actual’ theft or murder takes place - it’s “only a game”. And yet some of these games only reward if the player commits a ‘pretend’ sin and, in this, I think that they are intrinsically evil and might (and I seem to recall some studies that suggest that young people, particularly, who play violent video games are more apt to commit crimes of violence) lead to sin and so they are to be avoided. I’ve discussed my feelings with both my sister and brother-in-law and while my sister somewhat agrees my brother-in-law - an agnostic who is, definitively, the head of the household disagrees, saying my views are just more of “that weird Catholic stuff” and that his six-year-old son only plays the games when he is around (true) and that the child is able to distinguish fantasy from reality (at 5 or 6? I’m not so sure).

So while I really am not sure if video games are the Devil’s invention, I think that many sanction and reward ‘pretend’ sin so much that they are dangerous to the mind and the soul.

I will take a while to master Vazteroids - my highest score on Spacefighter is a mere 32970 or so. I want to get up to 80000

clost this thread!!! i can 't take it being wrong :o
today i am going to play a violent video game, like halo, thank you all for Guiding me to the truth 👍
GOD BLESS
🙂

I remember once playing a video game called “Noah’s Arc” or something like that…all it was was just somebody replaced all the images in the old school violent video game Doom but with Biblical themes and animals instead of walls of blood and zombies. You shot the animals to “tame them” and then they would immediately go to the Arc.

Hilarious. 😃

Gottle << I will take a while to master Vazteroids >>

Yes, play Vazteroids on “hard” = press 2 to start.

If you get to 5000 points you are very good, if you can get to 10,000 points you are very lucky. I have gotten to 10,000 points on hard maybe less than 10 times, in about 100,000 attempts.

Still hiring 3D artists… 👍
